'Lulu' - Der Zirkus des Lebens

... noch ganz frisch sind die Eindrücke der Premiere von 'Lulu' (hier auch die Handlung in aller Kürze nachzulesen) von Alban Berg in der Inszenierung von Stefan Herheim (er hatte bereits die Inszenierung der 'Rusalka' in der vergangenen Spielzeit in farbenprächtiger Weise vorgenommen) - das Abendprogramm des letzten Samstag in der Semperoper.

Sonntags zuvor waren an Semper 2 bei der Einführungsmatinee zu 'Lulu' von Regisseur Stefan Herheim und Cornelius Meister, der die musikalische Leitung inne hatte, einige erklärende Hintergründe zum Stück, der Musik und der Geschichte dargelegt worden. (Persönlicher Tip für den Opernneuling und auch den "alten Hasen" - Einführungsmatineen lohnen den Besuch stets, denn erstens erfährt man Infos zum Stück aus erster Hand und die Gelegenheit des persönlichen Gesprächs mit den Machern besteht, um eigene Fragen loszuwerden).

Bei komplexen und auch teilweise "schockierend" anmutenden Inszenierungen wie 'Lulu' ist es stets bereichernd, den kurzen Artikel 'The Role of Art and the Artist' von Edgar Schein, emeritierter Professor am Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT) für Organisationspsychologie, mit seinen fünf Grundaussagen als Grundlage über die Rolle der Künstler bzw. Kunst für die persönliche Reflexion heran zu ziehen.

First, art and artists stimulate us to see more, hear more, and experience more of what is going on within us and around us.
Second, art does and should disturb, provoke, shock, and inspire.
Third, the artist can stimulate us to broaden our skills, our behavioral repertory, and our flexibility of response
Fourth, the role of the arts and artists is to stimulate and legitimize our own aesthetic sense.
Fifth, analysis of how the artist is trained and works can produce important insights into what is needed to perform and what it means to lead and manage.

"Verehrtes Publikum - Hereinspaziert!" - so beginnt mit den Worten des Tierbändigers der Prolog, und einer vielschichtigen, psychologisch komplexen Geschichte, deren Dreh- und Angelpunkt Lulu ist. Sie ist -wie sich erst während der kommenden vier (kurzweiligen) Stunden herausstellen sollte- eine Frau, die die Männer sich zum Spielball macht und selbst am Ende "gekickt" wird.

Gisela Stille, schwedische Sopranistin und perfekte Besetzung für die Rolle der Lulu, verkörpert das "blonde Gift". Ihre Stimme und Spiel zog von Anfang an das Premierenpublikum in ihren Bann - spielerisch balancierend zwischen Ernsthaftigkeit und frivolem Freilufttheater. Eine Sängerin von der man noch öfters in Deutschland hören wird, dies ist sicher.

Stefan Herheim lädt das Publikum zu einer aufregenden Reise ein, und sie hat es in sich. Seine Inszenierungen zeigen stets eine überbordende Vielfalt von Handlungsstränge und -ebenen, so wie es in unserem Leben auch passiert. Mehr als sich in einem Artikel darstellen lässt und auch der Besuch des Stückes in seiner zeitlichen Begrenztheit ermöglicht. Je länger das Geschehen vor dem geistigen Auge und den ergänzenden Informationen durch das Textbuch und das Internet Gestalt annimmt, desto eindringlicher werden die Verbindungsstränge von der Zirkusmanege in die uns umgebende Realität.

Die Sächsische Staatskapelle und Cornelius Meister als musikalischer Leiter setzten ein perfektes "Stück Arbeit" um, dieser Oper die richtige Intensität zu geben. Es war nicht so einfach, das Orchester sowie die Sänger auf Grundlage der (unüblichen) Zwölftontechnik zu dirigieren, wie Cornelius Meister bei der Einführungsmatinee betont hatte. Alles hat wunderbar geklappt.

Ein kaleidoskopisches Leben - voll von Erfahrungen, Emotionen, Personen, unerwarteten Aktionen, zu viel, um es auf einmal zu verarbeiten und gleichzeitig genau so, was das Leben jeden Tag für uns bietet. Oft benötigen wir Aufmerksamkeit (Mindfulness), um die dynamischen Zusammenhänge innerhalb der vor uns geschehenden Handlung zu erkennen, die einzeln scheinenden Ereignisse zusammenfügen. Das Leben scheint schrill, voller Überraschungen (so stirbt im 1. Akt Lulus Ehemann Medizinalrat Dr. Goll an einem Herzinfarkt als dieser Lulu und den Maler Walter Schwarz nach seinem eigenen Einbruch ins Atelier überrascht), und schon öffnen sich durch solche unmöglich geglaubten Ereignisse plötzlich "Türen" ganz neuer Möglichkeiten. Doch ist Lulu erst einmal dem Glauben, dass es immer weiter nach oben geht erlegen. Nicht nur sie auch die übrigens Protagonisten heischen dem Hype der Jungfrauaktien und des eigenen Erfolgs hinterher, höher, schneller, reicher - auch dass der Absturz umso heftiger erfolgt. Es erinnert schon ein wenig an die seit 2008 eklatant präsente Finanzkrise, die Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft noch immer stärker in ihren Fängen hat, als wir dies persönlich wahr haben möchten. Ganz ähnlich wie die zahlreichen Männer, die durch Lulus Hände gelaufen sind, und die nicht merkten, wie sie lediglich benutzt worden sind und den Blick für die Realität verloren. Zu sehr beruht unser Handeln auf kurzfristig und sichtbar getriggerten Mentalen Modelen, d.h. Mustern, wie wir das Leben um uns herum wahrnehmen, und die oft komplexen dynamischen Verbindungen "ausblenden".

Im Textheft heißt es an einer Stelle: "Die Welt als Zirkus". Man erwartet, zum Lachen gebracht zu werden (wie immer beim Zirkus). Es scheint aber nicht wirklich so zu sein, eher ein surreales Vexierbild des realen Lebens, das uns als Publikum auf der Bühne vorgehalten wird. Der Zirkus ist wie eine Maske, die man anzieht, genau wie bei Pierrot. Hinter der verstecken sich viele schmerzliche Tränen. Diese Idee kommt immer wieder in 'Lulu' vor. Die Clowns (Lulus verblichene Liebhaber) spielen eine Rolle, die man von ihnen nicht erwarten würde.

Abschließend in aller Kürze :

Was war gut? Eine komplexe und vielschichtige Operninszenierung, die an Fragen und Anknüpfungspunkten an die tatsächlich real vom Publikum erlebten Geschehnisse nichts zu wünschen übrig lässt; Gisela Stille, die die Vielschichtigkeit der Lulu in besonderer Weise spielerisch, singend und sprechend in eindrucksvoll verkörperte; diese Oper verspricht das gesellschaftliche Gespräch über die unausgesprochenen Themen in der Gesellschaft (Lulus finden sich an den unterschiedlichsten Ebenen und Ecken der Gesellschaft, nicht nur als sexhungrig, sondern auch machthungrig); das Produktionsteam, das einen wundervollen traumhaften Job getan hat, dieses Stück auf die Bühne zu zaubern;

Was war tricky? Der verarbeitete Stoff dieser vielschichtigen Oper, die nicht nur die oft ungewöhnlich klingende "Zwölftonmusik" nutzte, sondern auch die Komplexität gesellschaftlicher Umbruchzeiten in den 20er und 30er Jahren gekonnt darstellte (ein Besuch ist bei Weitem nicht ausreichend); blutrünstige und frivole Szene, die definitiv so manchen Besucher irritiert haben mögen (doch Oper ist oft mit Mord und Totschlag verbunden, nur dass wir es selten so deutlich vor Augen geführt bekommen, wie in dieser Inszenierung -

Was war zu lernen? Lulu weiß nicht, welche Rolle sie im Leben spielt, für sie sind alle Männer lediglich große Spielzeuge, die man wegwirft, wenn man sie nicht mehr braucht; Emotionen aushalten, auch wenn man wie im 2. Akt nicht sofort die komplette Handlung in allen Einzelheiten entschlüsselt (wie auch durch zahlreiche Gespräche mit Gästen in der Pause zu erfahren war), und sich in Ruhe und entspannter Aufmerksamkeit vor dem geistigen Auge die Ereignisse auf der Bühne Revue passieren lassen; sich stets fragen, "Was ist der Kontext gewesen, aus welchem der Komponist diese Oper geschrieben hat?"; neues Lernen entsteht wenn man Emotionen positiv nutzt (auch wenn es auf der Bühne frivol und blutrünstig vor sich geht); in bestehenden Gesellschaften spielen Masken bislang (noch immer) eine größere Rolle als die Authentizität und Verletzbarkeit der Personen; Hilfe muss erfragt und auch angenommen werden können (insbesondere in heutigen multivernetzten Gesellschaften und der Beschleunigung von Veränderungen im gesellschaftlichen und wirtschaftlichen Umfeld ist das eine künftige notwendige Fähigkeit von Entscheidern, Managern, Künstlern und allgemein Bürgern) - ansonsten kann es zum Komplettabsturz kommen;

Next Action? Ein weiterer Besuch dieser aufrührenden Oper mit weiteren entstandenen Fragen, deren Beantwortung eine aufmerksame Beobachtung möglicherweise in erhellendes Licht getaucht werden kann; lassen wir uns überraschen; mehr zu Alban Berg erfahren (insbesondere den Zusammenhang zu Karl Amadeus Hartmann 'Simplicius Simplicissimus' erhellen, der im Herbst 2011 mit Valda Wilson in der Hauptrolle an der Semperoper zu erleben war).

... sun over the Baltic Sea is arising

... and so the thoughts on what will happen in Dresden in the coming months, years. Back in 1993 when I first visited Dresden-Hellerau, a real innovation pillar close to Dresden, though not really recognized for its entrepreneurial spirit for decades, the idea was set on fire in my head.

"Couldn't that be possible to reignite such drive as the godfathers of Hellerau and the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau had done a century ago?"

Listening to RichardFlorida in an interview with JimGoodnight, CEO of SAS, a couple of years ago on his topic of research "The Creative Class", further fueled my imagined vision of Hellerau 2.0.

Staying up here (writing these lines in the days of June 2010 right after the 4th Dresdner Future Forum) in the North of Germany, just a couple of miles from the coast of the Baltic Sea, my brain gets a chance to reset. The quietness of the day and vastness of view outside the porch windows makes me think about what it needs to make the "fire of ideas" go into a broad and sustainable one.

Perhaps we don't really have to reinvent new things rather combine current and already put down research and innovate the future of work and living.

Wouldn't that be cool? I have seen my fellow friends up in Jyväskylä, Finland, who have set up a network around MonkeyBusiness and their folks of TeamAcademy and stayed myself twice up there to entrench the feeling personally. Telling stories is one thing, experiencing it yourself is by far the much cooler way.

So, the question stays, "What to do next? Who are the other stakeholders, who are needed to make the change happen?"

Professor Richard Florida has identified five tactics.

Pay up. "People want work that's challenging, but money matters. Even college graduates won't take a differential to live in a cheaper place."
Outdo the competition. "Make your space the hippest one around. Your building and your environment show off who you are."
Take the guy with the tattoos seriously. " Top talent -- especially young recruits -- revel in their differentness. That new hire with full-on metal in his ears may be the best thing that ever happened to you. He's a visual cue that you've got an open house for talent, no matter what form it comes in."
Hire his boyfriend. (Or help him get a job down the street.) "Our research shows that same-sex partner benefits are intrinsically related to your company's success. It's the number-one indicator that your culture is inclusive."
Invade the backwaters. "Top talent isn't just found at Berkeley, MIT, and Stanford. There are plenty of great people hidden away in the backwaters."

Guess what? This place can be Dresden in the far Eastern part (not quite the ultimate Eastern part) of Germany. Quite a challenge to reach by train (2.5 hours from Berlin), by plane (not too many regular flights into the foreign world, other than charter) and yet this makes a really cool place. Not easy to reach and an awesome setting (on the river Elbe, with the Saxonian Swiss nearby and cool people all around - ask them and they will tell you more :-)).

I have always been fascinated by the history of the Maya civilization, by their huge baggage of knowledge in so many different fields and by all concerns their existence. Today, for the first time in my life I saw with my own eyes the better preserved Maya code. I had no idea that such an important treasure is hosted here in Europe and exactly in the beautiful city of Dresden (Germany).

Of the three existing Maya codes (the Madrid Code, the Dresden Code and the Paris Code), the Dresden Code is not only the better preserved but it is also the most elaborated and a highly important work of art. The code, written in a long sheet of paper, in total 39 leaves written on both sides, was probably written before the Spanish conquest.

This code, shows many half-human and half-animal figures in different moments of their daily life. They have in their hands tools and wear jewels and ornaments. Some of these figures are showed in colored panels. All around the figures it is to be seen the Maya hieroglyphic script, tons of small images about rituals (almanacs) and astrology, especially the Venus Cycle, (the full Venus Cycle is clearly shown in the Dresden Code). Venus has been the most observed planet, as the Maya believed it to be associated with wars and started their wars according to the Venus cycles.

Great importance was, however, given also to the observation of other planets such as Jupiter, Mars and Saturn and to the moon. The Maya elaborated a carefully moon calendar and a lunar reckoning. Their lunar knowledge was so impressive that the Maya were able to make eclipse predictions. An almanac for predicting eclipses can be seen in the Dresden Code too, together with detailed information on the planet Mars. The Maya tracked the movements of Mars across the zodiac and the relation between its movements and the terrestrial seasons. This lead them delineate a clear map of naked eye sky watching.

It has been an exciting voyage into a past civilization that is still present in our everyday life.

..... on the edge to 2012

The last couple of years - moving back to Dresden, due to the pull of hidden entrepreneurial power - have been quite a roller coaster for me, and personal life.

While starting to write these lines, as a reflection on the happenings in 2011, and an outlook into 2012, I think, "Should I really write in English? What about my German friends, especially here in Dresden, who are not as exposed as myself to English speaking folks?". Doubts come up only for a split second, as 90% of my personal network is based outside the city where I live. The Web has enabled the connections, and so will the tools for people to translate into their own language - so it will be English in the first place.

I'd like to start off with a question by my dear friend, mentor, inspirator (out of the blue at a Scottish campfire in summer 2008 to be quite honest) Ville from MonkeyBusiness.

"What do you want to achieve?"

The answer is quite spontaneous, and on a slip of paper that I keep since the leadership workshop IGNITION 2009 at TeamAcademy. It says, "Provide a learning place for people to play to their strengths." (currently "sitting" in Edgar Schein's "HELPING - HOW TO OFFER, GIVE, AND RECEIVE HELP - Understanding Effective Dynamics in One-to-One, Group, and Organizational Relationships"

On 14th of January, 2009 I wrote down these words, and confirmed them via a phone call from Finland to a dear friend, and former colleague at BMW - ever since I am working on the vision, even though it is not always easy to stay on track getting feedback in the most diminishing form from friends, potential employers, or institutions like my former university HTW Dresden, to which I own a great deal of my bold stepping forward into unknown, unconquered territory of learning, and working collaboratively.

I'd like to use the five questions from the new "MonkeyBook" created by MonkeyBusiness to frame the past, and the lookout to the future:

Where have I been?

Early in 2011 I learned that Semperoper Ballett resonated in many ways of what my dreams are made of, interaction of people from a multi-diverse cultural background, working on a shared vision, in a given place, to bring up new forms of expressing current reality (society, research, human dynamics, leadership, craftsmanship, interplay, collective learning, open education, ..). After "loosing" Dresden's 1st CoWorking space to a web agency late in 2010, I learned that using existing models of practice, and observing, writing about it can create a quite different "Power of Pull". Going to ballet and opera performances (mostly at last-minute) is for me like a workshop investment - I never know what I take from it. I let myself always get surprised what emerges, and how my emotions, memories, and connections in real-life come up.

In spring I had to quite my journey as an entrepreneur, offering process consultation, and lean thinking for all kinds of organizationally troubled processes (where one doesn't want, or have extra financial, manpower, or time resources). For me that was like a shock that I -at first- couldn't get really over. Only after many (non-helpful) tries to involve people with marketing, and selling capabilities I decided to "quit" this form of earning money, looking for a paid job.

A sunny morning in June brought a phone call in, which I thought would be from somewhere around Darmstadt, only to learn after seconds into the conversation that it was Annalie, AKA maverickwoman, from Sydney, which turned out to be a one-week trip to Australia (Sydney & Melbourne). This week was one of the most intense times ever in my life - 60 hours of flight, 2 conferences, 2 cities, 7 days in Australia, uncountable learning experiences - especially the two days in Melbourne have shaken my life since then.

Coming back from Australia friends in my network told me over and over, "You have to move to the Valley! You are too fast for Dresden!". So one day I took Alex Lightman's ideas to heart, phoned the German Californian Chamber of Commerce, and asked about what to do in order to get a work permit for the Valley. Only turned out that I was rerouted to Germany to discuss matters in detail. Oh, that was not what I intended to hear. The idea popped up of doing a three-week promotion tour for Saxony and Dresden on my own, visiting all my contacts in the Valley, and write about it. Only write? No pictures, video, would be better! A friend, Daniel Scholz, just online on Facebook - a photographer. So I asked him, whether he would be interested to join. Yes! In minutes the idea was laid out, some further ideas, and advice by Alex, and off it went the adventure: InnoBay.

August in Dresden, hot, lots of tourists - and having no internet at home. Where to go? Starbucks, where free WiFi and a decent cup of coffee makes it an enjoyable place to be. What I learned there: the WORLD is pouring through the doors, as the day goes by. Many cultures, languages, known foreign faces from the Semperoper, friends to meet - sometimes by serendipity. Should that be the time to reboot something that had a legacy already? The OpenCoffeeClubDresden, now also http://twitter.com/occDD

Where am I now?

Too be quite frank - deaccelerated a bit, focusing on OpenCoffeeClubDresden, and what emerges from it. It seems to create the place where people are drawn into -even though there is no agenda. The PresencingStatus with its four short questions (1. Good? 2. Tricky? 3. Learned? 4. Next action?) after each gathering seems to work to understand more about each other's thinking during the two-hour meetings.

Another eight hours to go until 2012 - looking forward relaxed, and open minded on what will happen in the days to come.

Flying out to Abu Dbabi on building the ties between Saxony and Abu Dhabi around technology, arts, and education on the emerging future (supporting Semperoper Ballett on their spring tour to Abu Dhabi)

Starting off with Dresden Innovation Nights to accelerate startup eco-system in the region to spread across the globe.

Got to know the most amazing woman (also an opera, and ballet lover); quit my consultancy, to start all over from scratch; took the opportunity, and accepted the invitation to Sydney in June; restarted the OpenCoffeeClubDresden which opened new connections in town; showed twice TranscendentMan in small friends circle; two pretty filled-up session around TranscendentMan issues at MobileCamp 2011; became Semperoper most active blogger, and almost only social media active guy

2. Tricky

To not find clients to run my beloved business consulting (around lean thinking, and organizational design, which I am both very passionate about); to live from Hartz IV (social welfare one would call it elsewhere); being too fast paced thinking in an environment (currently) dependent on government funding in large part; not bringing InnoBay, Dresden Innovation Nights, and conference blogging/ tweeting into life as I imagine to happen; tweeting/ facebooking around a lot of different topics which irritates often people

3. Learned

Hold back with ideas (their time will come, and you will be pulled into it); be fast in groups that are not directly connected to local friends, colleagues, potential clients, slow down the communication speed when necessary; OpenCoffeeClubDresden has emerged as a learning opportunity around group communication dynamics (actually to all participants I believe); be mindful and listen, and see what is going on around you, the right people will connect with you sooner, or later

4. Action

Let the new year come up, and work on the points above, as I have been doing before! And focus even stronger on the process of dialogue as learned from my dear friends from Monkey Business.

Cultures Accelerate their Uniqueness at Semperoper

Most of the readers of this blog by now have probably noticed that I love to write about the local opera house, Semperoper. Traditionally orchestra performances, operas, and ballets are the repertoire of the house - yet this one is certainly different.

Since the new intendant, Dr. Ulrike Hessler, and certainly already under its former intendant Prof. Gerd Ueker a new wind of change (in German) is weighing through the building that looks older than it truly is (only last year it had its 25th anniversary - bombed in large part in the nights of the 13th and 14th, February, 1945 it took several decades until 1977 to restart the rebuild).

Is it really so different to other opera houses? Not just a opera house in the sense we all would expect? Attracting the "silver locks" and "black suits" night after night?

It certainly is, yet most of it has to be explored personally. Even when you have no clue what the concrete outcome of visiting a performance of "Young Choreographers" (premiering tomorrow, three performances already completely sold out - only chance to get tickets being at the box office of Semper 2 30 min prior to performance start) - I love the challenge to try out new staff, that could eventually lead to further personal learning experience. Dresden is the heart of Europe's most dense multi-disciplinary hotspot of emerging technology fields, with cutting edge research, and a rising entrepreneurship eco-system (even though still in a pre-mature phase compared to other tech centers around the world, taken the acceleration, and open cooptition into account).

Semperoper, as a microcosmos of the world as such in a nutshell (pretty much what August the Strong created back in his ruling days) where arts, science, technology, and foreign cultures "clash" in serendipity constantly. Doing business as everybody in the opera world, playing the "old" operas in traditional style and costumes, would certainly enable the box office to sell ticket for premieres for several thousand EUROS per person. Yet the human mind only would see, hear, and feel what it would naturally expect - where is the NEW then coming from?

In a world of changing priorities, shrinking monetary funds, and reshifting the kind of work the Semperoper is reinventing itself every day - from my past experience in the lean management world, which I had also the privilege to lead as an "early mover" at BMW back in 2003, the house is an amazing role model to see what "lean" is about. Changing daily productions on stage, and starting every night sharply at the preset hour is more than amazing.

Last Sunday another outstanding evening of the almost 20 year-long history of "Jazz in der Semperoper" had been announced in the papers and the website. A jazz trio from Palestine bringing not only unheard sounds to the house, and the city - rather setting another mosaic stone in the multi-cultural tribe of house. Having had a rich past of Jewish artists that had to leave Semperoper when the Nazi-government took power in 1933, inviting the group - in my view - gave room for setting closer emotional bounds across diverse cultures.

"Die Welt des Trio Joubran feat. Yousef Hbeisch" pulled the audience completely in its ban, and created a emotional band, that only music, and ballet can create - as individual language, and words plays no role, only the world universal language that is understood across cultural boundaries and enables the creation of trust. Trust is the essential essence of dialogue, that when nurtured for long enough a time enables unimaginable collaborative action that would not be thinkable.

Dresden is rich of such places where the "unexpected culture clashes" can happen in a relaxing, and most fruitful way - lets await the next "Jazz in der Semperoper" and meet together (even though we have no clue what is the concrete outcome - it may be new friends you'd never have met, learning about a style of music that until yesterday did not even bother your thought, or may it be the emotions that pull your tears out thinking about getting along with friends from Serbia, Croatia, Switzerland, England, Italy, Greece, Germany, France, Turkey, Hong Kong, Japan back in 1991).

Everybody will draw something different from attending a performance at Semperoper, and it will be different from the kind of performance, and her or his personal past experience. Looking forward to a fruitful future of "Jazz in der Semperoper" that got very positive feedback by Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten (in German).

Der Nussknacker kommt nach Dresden!

Last Saturday evening I finally saw The Nutcracker. I have never seen it before and having the chance to see it in the magic city of Dresden was like a dream coming true.
The Semperoper was completely full, no free seats available (the same happened to the Premiere one week ago)...everybody waiting for the exhibition to start.

After a few minutes the orchestra plays the first notes of Tchaikovsky music and the show starts. A lot of young children-dancers fill the stage (they are the young students of the Palucca Hochschule für Tanz). Being The Nutcracker a Christmas fairy-tale it is a pleasant surprise to see children expressing on stage their joy for Christmas.

I suppose that everybody knows the

story of the little Maria and the Nutcracker, therefore I avoid to summer it up here. For those who do not know it yet, I suggest to give a look at the trailer on the Semperoper website.

This Nutcracker takes place in Dresden (such an elegant city and an excellent place to give life to a Christmas fairy-tale). From the scenografy one can easily recognize one of the Zwinger’s doors with its beautiful crown and the Striezelmarkt (the traditional Christmas market). I have deeply appreciated the Dresden location. Making Dresden the ideal set for a fairy-tale it is like extending to our daily life the emotions performed on stage.

The light-games give even more emphasis to what on scene and the costumers, all so colorful provide brightness to the scenes. No one word can be heard during the show, everybody is completely fascinated by the dream performed on stage. The Christmas atmosphere has enchanted all!

Every single scene is made unforgettable by the great professionalism of the Semperoper’s soloists (Anna Merkulova, Istvan Simon, Yumiko Takeshima, Jiri Bubenicek) and of the whole Corps de Ballet. They give always great pleasure to eyes and mind and, most important, the joy they feel performing their ART is clearly felt by the audience!

We easily forget that most of the pleasure comes by the emotional tension the dances give to the audience…. the music, the costumes, the lights together with the choreographies and the scenographies are part of the huge work the dancers and all the staff make to give and share emotions with the audience. From the co-operation and the hard work of many people (most of the time unknown) we all receive those emotions and ideas that spread in our mind even many days after the performance.

A huge thanks to Aaron S. Watkin, to Jason Beechey and the young dancers of the Palucca Hochschule für Tanz, to all the Semperoper’s dancers and to all those people who made my evening unforgettable (the best start I could dream for the coming Christmas!).

Dreaming is important even when we are not children anymore!

"... But I think that when you teased your co-worker, friend, neighbor about the level of his/her creativity ability, you are holding up a stop sign that said: STOP Risking! STOP Growing! STOP Sharing! STOP Living! - Because when you finally stop living, you will no longer be a threat to me." (slightly changed quote from page 122)

Teasing is the death through thousand cuts - the teased one will be strong for long, only to eventually kick in and "die" at one point (seemingly surprising to others).

Please rethink next time you are about to belittle a friend's idea, how you feel when somebody tells your cool idea is grap, and not worth to be followed ahead! And STOP your mouth opening up!

Creative genius is in all of us, yet often pretty pre-mature. Look for the people, who can help you to grow this precious piece within you that only you, and some sensitive people (gone through similar stages) can see, and reflect to you.

'Alcina' zum Verlieben Verführerisch

Am vergangenen Samstag stand sie auf dem Programm der Semperoper (hier ganz modern, im Sinne Händels, der Verweis zur Facebook Gruppe) , die 'Alcina' von Friedrich Georg Händels. Eine weitere Barockoper im modern angehauchten Gewand, wie der interessierte Operngänger sich schon bereits eine Woche vorher bei der Einführungsmatinee vergewissern konnte.

Gänzlich anders diesmal der Einstieg zu dieser Premiere, denn zuvor ein persönliches Interview zu zukunftsweisenden Technologien rund um den Stoff Graphen, an dessen Umsetzung auch in Dresden intensiv geforscht und gearbeitet wird. Wie sollte sich dies mit dem kommenden Abend, der diesmal bereits kurz nach 17 Uhr begann, verbinden? Man konnte gespannt sein - war doch die Semperoper in den vergangenen Monaten immer wieder für überraschende Momente gut.

Was konnte da besser passen als eine "Zauberoper", in der das Unmögliche zur Realität wird, und ein Labyrinth der persönlichen Erfahrungen und künftigen Möglichkeiten auf der Bühne zu erleben war? Doch beginnen wir mit der Einführung, dem obligatorischen "Tunen der Sinne" (wie es auch ein Spitzensportler stets tut bevor es auf die Bahn geht!) der eigenen Aufmerksamkeit für die Opernstunden vor uns. Sophie Becker, die Dramaturgin der Inszenierung führte souverän in das Stück ein und zeigte dem interessierten Publikum, das zahlreich in den Opernkeller gekommen war, den "roten Faden" der barocken Oper. So vorbereitet begann Punkt 18 Uhr vor vollem Haus die Premiere, die es - wie wir über den Verlauf der kommenden drei Stunden sehen und erleben sollten - in sich hatte.

Mit Faszination konnte dem Besetzungszettel entnommen werden, dass diese Produktion ausschließlich mit Mitgliedern aus dem eigenen Ensemble (sowohl sängerisch als auch tänzerisch) besetzt ist. Neben 'Street Scene' erneut eine Gelegenheit neue und bekannte Stimmen des Hauses kennenzulernen. Hervorzuheben sind hier besonders Barbara Senator, die bereits zwei Wochen zuvor bei der Eröffnung des Militärhistorischen Museums eine kurze Arie aus 'Alcina' darbot. Amanda Majeski ebenfalls neu an der Semperoper und seit dieser Spielzeit festes Ensemblemitglied glänzte mit einer spielerischen und sängerischen Glanzleistung, die bei vergleichbaren Altersstufen selten anzutreffen ist.

Doch sei die Story kurz erzählt:

Alcina (Amanda Majeski), einer Zauberin auf einer einsamen Insel liegen die Männer scharenweise zu Füßen, doch sobald sie ihrer überdrüssig wird verwandelt sie diese in tierische Zwitterwesen. Rugiero (Barbara Senator, in einer Hosenrolle) hat es ihr besonders angetan, ihre ganze Liebe fokussiert sich auf ihn. Doch Rugieros Ehefrau Bradamante (Christa Mayer) will ihn aus deren "Liebesklauen" in der Verkleidung ihres Bruders Ricciardo entreißen. Dabei begleitet sie Melisso (Markus Butter). Kaum treffen beide auf der Insel ein treffen sie auf Alcinas Schwester Morgana (Nadja Mchantaf) und ihren Freund Oronte (Simon Esper). Hin und hergerissen von Gefühlen versucht Bradamente Rugiero wieder für sich zu gewinnen. Am Ende kann sich Rugiero (anders als in Händels Original) nicht zwischen leidenschaftlicher Liebe zu Alcina und solider Familienvaterliebe entscheiden und entsagt dem Leben.

Mit dem doch frischen Auge eines "Nichtkenners" der Barockoper und Händel im Speziellen komme ich mir vor wie das englische Publikum 1735 zur Uraufführung - und lasse das Geschehen auf mich wirken. Was in den technischen Details zu Barockmusik und den stimmlichen Besonderheiten noch nicht in der "Kenntnisschublade" versuche ich im größeren Kontext und der Stimmung zu erfassen.

Man merkt Jan Philipp Gloger ein wenig an, dass er vom Schauspiel kommt, und so kommt eine neue Sicht ins Spiel. Statt barockem Pomp, ist Schlichtheit und Eleganz angesagt, die durch die wieder hervorragende Lichtführung von Fabio Antoci unterstrichen wird. Man muss sich Gedanken machen, was mit einzelnen Ausdrucksformen der Handlung, des Bühnenbilds und auch der Kostüme verbunden sein mochte. Welche Emotionen sollen sich beim Publikum einstellen? Alcina kommt zunächst als "männermordendes Weib" in Erscheinung, mit hochtoupiertem Haar und strahlender Erscheinung - ein wenig unerreichbar scheinend. Und doch oder gerade deshalb liegen ihr die Männer zu Füßen, sie bietet die Utopie, die die eigene Frau nicht zu bieten hat (so scheint es). "The grass looks always greener on the other side of the fence" - Bradamante (hervorragend gespielt und gesungen von Christa Mayer) sieht die Situation anders als Rugiero, der mitten im "System Alcina" eingebunden ist als Außenstehende, was mit den Männern geschieht, die Alcina "zur Seite" legt (und auch Rugiero blühen wird). Hier kommt die erfrischende, ständig zwischen spontan wechselnden Liebesbezeugungen hin- und herspringende Morgana ins Spiel, die in Bradamante einen neuen Liebhaber sieht. Und so kommt Bewegung in das Spiel der Gefühle, die einen oft auch persönlich beschäftigen. Es muss nicht nur Liebe sein, es kann auch ganz allgemein um Leidenschaften gehen, die man im selbst gelebten System nicht in der gewünschten Form umsetzen kann. Oft gibt es dann ein ENTWEDER vs. ODER, Schwarz oder Weiß. Doch was oft vergessen wird, dazwischen gibt es einen Blumenstrauß an Farben und Möglichkeiten, die so flexibel erkundet werden können, wie sich das Labyrinth auf der Bühne veränderte. An jeder Ecke des Lebens, auch in dem von Rugiero und Bradamante, gibt es die kleinen Ereignisse und Überraschungen, die es wert sind, dass man das eine nicht gänzlich mit dem anderen tauscht. Am Ende geht es so aus wie in dieser Variante von 'Alcina' und alle drei haben verloren. Nur die anderen gewinnen, die eigentlich gar nicht im Fokus der Hilfe standen!

Das macht nachdenklich!

Wie schon bei 'L'incoronazione di Poppea' muss sich das auf moderne Töne eingerichtete Ohr mächtig an die Barockklänge gewöhnen, wenn es sich nicht bereits um einen passionierten Barockoperfan handelt. Die Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden mit Rainer Mühlbach am Pult heute halb-erhaben hochgefahren aus dem Graben auf Augenhöhe mit Publikum bietet einen Hybrid zwischen reiner Barockmusik mit klassischen Instrumenten aus dieser Zeit und zeitgenössischen Instrumenten. Es ist der reine Luxus aus dem Parkett Orchester, Dirigent, Sänger als auch Publikum mit einem Blick wahrzunehmen - die Aufführung bekommt eine gänzlich andere Qualität. Alles scheint miteinander verwoben zu sein, und die Gedanken schweifen zum Spiel auf der Bühne und zurück in das eigene Erleben.

Wie mag es wohl den rund 1.300 anderen Gästen der Premiere ergangen sein? Welche Emotionen kochten hoch? Welche Fragen stellten sich?

Doch alles in Kürze:

Good - eine erfrischende neue Inszenierung, die viel Raum für persönliche Interpretation und Reflexion bot; ein phantastisches Ensemble, das in Zukunft noch mehr von sich Reden machen wird (insbesondere Barbara Senator und Amanda Majeski); Szenenapplaus und Bravo-Rufe aus dem Publikum; drei (3) Stunden, die wie im Fluge vergingen (hätte es nicht ein wenig mehr sein können?),
Tricky - sich einlassen auf Neues (Doch ist es nicht der Moment, wo wir aus einer Oper das Meiste für uns persönlich mitnehmen?),
Learned - Georg Friedrich Händel, der immer wieder die Oper umgeschrieben und angepasst hat wäre sicherlich sehr angetan gewesen ob des Zuschauerzuspruchs, und auch der doch teilweise kontroversen Sichtweisen (schon während der Vorstellung geführter Gespräche); manche Besucher entspannen sich bei Opernbesuchen und andere wiederum sehen diese Gelegenheit als besondere Lerngelegenheit (also geht es wie im Stück, es kein "entweder oder" sondern ein "mit"), den schmalen Grat es beiden recht zu machen ist immer wieder die Herausforderung; auch Opernkomponisten wie Händel sind Entrepreneure im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes (wie es heute oft nur noch mit Startups in der Businesswelt in Verbindung gebracht wird),
Action - neugierig machen auf mehr, dass sich noch mehr Neugierige auf den Weg zu 'Alcina' finden. - E S L O H N T S I C H (in diesem Jahr folgen noch zwei Aufführungen im November, bevor es dann in 2012 weitere gibt; Details).

'Simplicius Simplicissimus' - simple is something different

Friday evening in Dresden, a cubicle behind Semperoper, the name is program: Semper 2. New approaches to opera are created here, and the open room offers quite some experiences one never can make happen between the audience and the players, singers, and dancers in the large house.

15 min to start (at 7pm sharp) the crowd is awaiting to be let in. The tension rises, as normally ("But what is normal?") one is allowed around 30 min early to enter. Something is different, yet one does not get details.

Opening - the eyes see no stage in the middle, rather 128 (or 125?) wooden boxes where the audience is going to sit, the stage is draped around the walls - this is going to be what Edgar Schein, MIT Sloan School of Management, and scholar of Kurt Lewin, a German-American psychologist with Jewish roots, calls a "cultural island", the ordinary is shifted significantly out of the normal expectance, and yet there is not much room to flee the situation. Curiousity, and paid ticket definitely outweigh the anxiety that arises already.

This situation reminds instantly of a paper written by Edgar Schein with the title "The Role of Art and the Artist". Why is arts relevant to other elements of society like business or government? - that's his initial question. Let's see whether, and how this new piece created by Manfred Weiß and his team will play out.

"First, art and artists stimulate us to see more, hear more, and experience more of what is going on within us and around us."

Being the audience in the middle, sitting on plain boxes, let's the mind stay anxious, moving around in 360° as the play goes on around on the installation around the walls. It could happen that you instantly get in "conversation" with your neighbors bumping in each others' feet. Erik Nielsen, the conductor this evening is standing merely a few meters away, the orchestra around him, and almost part of the audience. One feels connected, one feels the real work of what a conductor is providing for the whole process: being the facilitator of a rather complex process.

"Second, art does and should disturb, provoke, shock, and inspire."

Going to the opera often is expected to be nice. This evening certainly was different. Valda Wilson, Australian soprano, and a member of the Junges Ensemble, played her debut as "Simplicius Simplicissimus". What had sparked at last year's opening at Albertinum with "The Inner Voice" where she had sang as part of the ballet performance choreographed by Jiří Bubeníček, principal dancer of the Semperoper Ballett, clearly now became apparent: here is a voice "diamond"beautifully harnessed over time. Who had the chance to experience, and hear her in "Pussy in Boots" earlier this year could see her amazing capability not only concerning her voice, but additionally here playing skills. Congratulations to Valda, who inspired once again, that you can, and should play roles in life you are not naturally familiar with. The outcome is amazing!!!

Karl Amadeus Hartmann was already 1934 in the first draft of this opera about the gruel times of the Thirty Year War very distinct with the persons, and it did not make it difficult "to see" Hermann Göhring moving on stage. Matthias Henneberg amazingly brought this part over, and one could see some frowning in the audience, as this connected back to a not often in this city talked about time, when innovation in arts often got diminished as "Entartete Kunst" by the governement. What that meant for Semperoper can be experienced via Verstummte Stimmen (after a presentation at Semperoper and Staatsschauspiel Dresden in the summer - this opera could spark further engagement in learning about it, and its relevance for today's art).

"Third, the artist can stimulate us to broaden our skills, our behavioral repertoy, and our flexibility of response."

The tension between the narration of a 17th century play by Grimmelshausen and the "seen" reality of the 1930's clearly shook the audience's minds, and the receptive thinking about what this opera with a music quite unfamiliar, led into some improvisation by all.

"Fourth, the role of arts and artists is to stimulate and legitimize our own aesthetic sense."

The time during this evening once again showed that "beauty" is not only what the large audience, critics, and voices define as that, "beauty" lies also in the new ways of expressing intentions as Karl Amadeus Hartmann, on the edge of the arts and living society back in the day, intended to do. The adaption to our times with still the anchor points to the past (the costumes of the 17th century, the military uniform, the haircut of the dancer) brought the memories up, even though only a few of the audience might have experienced the 30's themselves. Playing such a piece in itself is an amazing BEAUTY.

"Fifth, analysis of how the artist is trained and works can produce important insights into what is needed to perform and what it means to lead and manage."

Different to the performance on the large stage here the artists, are all part of one audience, WE. And everybody can see each other's emotions and reaction, a quite unique situation for opera singers, who normally in productions are detached more from the audience which is also sitting in a rather dark room. On Friday it was like being all together on the same blanket (or wooden piles ;-)).

My resume of the evening: STUNNING and calling for more!!!

Doing what is often done by me after such an experience to capture the assets of learning, is the Presencing Status (stating four short questions):

Good - an opera played in a very unfamiliar setting, creating a "cultural island", emotionally touching, and opening the heart; great debut by Valda Wilson as Simplicius expressing not just her awesome voice (BTW where does that amazing soprano spring up from? How many "Valda Wilsons" are around us, and would only need the right mentor to see the awesomeness to make them strive forward to their highest potential?) also her natural talent as an actor (via mimic and gestic alike (!)); what impresses me every and each time is how opera singers and the orchestra get accustomed to the unique closeness to the audience, they even for themselves experience encounters they often can't get on the large stage (where seeing the audience during the performance is something of impossibility;
Tricky - minor details as the 4 million lost souls during the 30 Year War (Dreißigjähriger Krieg, 1618-1648), and the to be further accustomed joined action of the in the audience distributed singers of the choir; my ears are still not really accustomed to German opera texts (what counts is the wholeness of the performance - and this has been exceptional in every aspect (!))
Learned - subtle signs such as uniform, first name made clear the connection to the 30's and the background on what the opera was intended to show and express; the Dresden audience is more flexible to adapt to new circumstances as thought (today after heading out of the introduction to 'Alcina' the newest production, an old lady (clearly in her late 70's/ early 80's told me how much she liked the performance even with the (for her for sure) shocking elements within the play connecting to the time between 1933-1945 in Dresden) - this may be even the most encouraging feedback on such productions, that fit into the row of 'Street Scene' by Kurt Weill also played on large stage; holding the tension, even when emotions seem to overwhelm you, tears are about to flow as memories come up, will emerge in the collective consciousness;
Action: definitely see the performance at least a second time in order to experience the development (as I always do, especially with productions, that are either catching diverse reviews or little attention in the beginning of the play); reading & writing on "cultural islands" and how an opera house like Semperoper can play a major role in providing such a space for making innovation (in the technological, and even more in the social sense (!)) possible.

Sparking to Think - and Act!

Emotionally disrupting show, ConfronTension, by Dresden Semperoper and Dresden Semperoper Ballett 'On the Move' here at Military Museum Dresden.   At 3pm sharp their 2nd show is going to kick-off.  

'Love and Hate' is the theme of the starting point - both spark intense emotions, the question is "How do we deal with them (individually & collectively)? The emerging energy they unveil is powerful, in the right context/ social field this can be used to co-create a better future (even on diverse world views).

I am strongly reminded of Adam Kahane's talk on 'Power and Love' at 3rd Global Forum in Muscat, Oman, in April 2008

While some friends are at downdown Dresden like Marco Dziallas, Florian Andreas Vogelmaier, ... I am at Dresden's most disturbing and emotionally touching point up on the outskirts of the city.

By now this performances are over, yet there is more to come around ballet and opera, that have (from my point of view) a rather strong connection to what we have seen today, and experienced around the world. 'Hate and Love' is all around us, only it is on us to deal with it accordingly for the better of it.

Good: ballet in a new and inspiring setting; meeting lots of friends, sparking of memories
Tricky: the dense spaces held some people back while trying to see the performances
Learned: let yourself in the flow of action, magic and surprises will happen
Action: putting my thoughts on "electronic" paper (which I am doing right now) and on Facebook (this actually done shortly before the 2nd run today).

Accelerating Futures - Past & Current Combined

Currently it is the 3rd day of SEMICON Europa 2011, Europe's largest fair on semiconductor industries (and adjacent fields, that reach well into the creative space, OLEDs as just one example). Silicon Saxony so to say the host of the future.

"There will be no future without microelectronics!" as Stanislaw Tillich, Ministerpräsident of the Free State of Saxony coined it at the press conference on Tuesday out here at MESSE DRESDEN where 'Slaughterhouse Five'.

As Saxony is a true hot bed of hightech innovation, and has a legacy in social change (just remember the days of the 'Soft Revolution' of the year 1989 in the GDR when the citizens of Dresden played also a major role in making the transition possible), this also attracted a friend from Japan. A few days earlier Motohiro, until yesterday "only" a Facebook-friend, announced his coming, so it was quite natural to tell him to apply as visitor for SEMICON Europa 2011. Announcement by Motohiro, that touchdown in Dresden has been completed - THE BALL OF CONNECTING THE WORLD IS ROLLING!

Meeting at 9 o'clock sharp, with Dresden October rain pooring down, once again an international surprise encounter. After months of FB connections, Likes, and sharing knowledge originally generated by dear friends Bert-Ola (Sweden), and Inma (Spain) finally came together in meeting in person at one of the most internationally sparked places in Dresden: Starbucks Dresden Altmarkt. Tuning in, getting accustomed to each other's speed of thinking, and acting, getting reading for take off to MESSE DRESDEN. On the way through the rain, a short detour through Zwinger, Theaterplatz, and checking Semperoper for tickets that night. What might be on? - 'Un ballo in maschera' (a story about the 'blind spot' of management; that is how I see it by now) is on. So as Motohiro is just one day in Dresden, taking the chance (even though that is my third (!) visit to it. We decide to make it on last minute - one never knows what interesting encounters could happen while at SEMICON Europa 2011.

A most inspiring day with Motohiro around the conference, learning more about semiconductor industry via him. The day seemed to accelerate already. It peaked (for the first time) when my eye caught notice of a clean room visit to Fraunhofer IPMS at 4:30pm ("Oh, would we make it to Semperoper at 7pm?" - challenges to be on the move ;-)). A very personal tour through the facilities at Fraunhofer IPMS in the compound area, where Silicon Saxony had some of their roots well before the year 1989.

6:15pm -time is running, 'Un ballo in maschera' is starting in 45 min (sharp, this opera house is clearly a lean facility, always amazed on the precision. "Will we make it?"is racing my mind. A taxi is arranged a couple of minutes later by colleagues and off we go - whooosh to downtown Dresden.

5 (!) min to the start. Tickets on forth level (actually best choice if you'd fond of experiencing the complete roundview of the play on stay - every time again I am amazed what insight one gets from up their, despite the distance) and we are sneaking in just seconds before the lights go off. The house is full and remembering the reviews on the premiere at 30th of September are long forgotten. The play is once again amazing, and even visitors from Berlin whom we by accident got in contact were thrilled by the modern play. [More on the performance in separate blog post].

As the day had not yet given enough, the evening finished with a light supper at MAX next door. Only to take separate ways shortly around 0:30am - only to meet soon for sure. Perhaps already to Open Science Summit in Mountain View on 22./23. of October. I am invited there as blogger in residence, yet at the moment I lack the financials to make the flight over to California possible.

If somebody would approach me with a similar situation, I'd certainly not hesitate to fund the project. Who is currently in a better position as myself (currently working, yet not for money, global interdisciplinary connectors, AKA boundary spanners in the social network world, are not a common business role and paid yet), may indicate his/her willingness to support #InnoBay (of which the Open Science Summit is just one part).

Lass Dich überraschen - Zugaben später!

Die Saison an der Semperoper ist noch kaum einen Monat alt und immer wieder für Überraschungen gut. Was mit einem Tag der Offenen Tür, vollen Haus zur Öffentlichen Ballettprobe am selben Tag zum Abschluss begann, fand heute morgen einen weiteren Höhepunkt auf einer dramaturgischen Grundlinie, die kontinuierlich nach oben weist.

Oft sind Vorstellungen voll ausverkauft, die man kennt und weiß, worauf man sich einstellen kann. 'La bohème' (in einer Version von 1983) ist in der Regel ausverkauft. Doch wie sieht es bei Neuem und (vermeintlich) Unbekannten aus? Dort wo wirklich Neues geschieht und der eigene Geist gefordert wird und so erst Neues auch im eigenen Denken entsteht.

Ist es nicht oft so, dass wir uns sträuben, Zeit und Geld zu investieren und den Gang in die Oper, das Theater oder Kino scheuen? Ich selbst kann mich da nicht rausreden - wem wird es schon anders gehen?

Gestern kurzfristig eine Karte erstanden für 'Der klingende Schmuckvorhang' - einfach aus Neugier und guter Erinnerung an das Preisträgerkonzert im vergangenen Jahr. [en passant noch Karten für die Ballettwoche erstanden]

Heute - 10:45 Uhr - ich muss mich sputen - nicht zu spät kommen - die Sonne blinzelt über Dresden - .... was wird mich erwarten?

... das Parkett halbgefüllt, da kommt mir in den Sinn "Der Mensch sucht nur (Bekanntes)..."

Doch diejenigen, die es wagten, das Unbekannte zu ergründen wurden reichlich belohnt. Zugaben kann man an der Oper generell nicht als alltäglich betrachten, genau dies bewirkte tosender Beifall und Fußgetrappel der durchweg nicht mehr ganz jungen Generation :)

Neben mir die Worte eines älteren Herrn, sicherlich die 70 wohl überschritten, "Das war schön!" - da weiß man, es war schlicht perfekt, awesome oder stunning.

Good: wieder mal überrascht worden, wie so oft schon im Haus, das Semperoper heißt!

Tricky: wo wohl die andere Hälfte der Gäste war (es wäre noch reichlich Platz gewesen)?

Learned: Innovative Ideen, wenn man sich auf's Unbekannte einlässt! [bei #occDD mehr]

Action: .... die Wege des Jungen Ensembles aufmerksam verfolgen (es lässt schon jetzt aufhorchen (!))

Lehre in Zeiten von Web 2.0 & Collaboration

Seit Montag läuft an der TU Dresden die Konferenz Wissensgemeinschaften 2011, die wiederum drei Einzelkonferenzen integriert. Näheres findet sich auch über die Twitterstreams mit den Hashtags #geneme11 #delfi11 #gmw11, wobei #wige11 der allumfassende Tag ist [da die Inhalte auf Twitter nach einigen Wochen, eventuell sogar Tagen "verschwinden" sei ein Blick auf Greplin empfohlen].

Heute geht die Konferenz in die Endrunde und es ist Zeit, ein erstes Fazit zu ziehen.

Auch diesmal erlaube ich mir es kurz zu machen und den PresencingStatus anzuwenden. Vier kurze Fragen, die eine Reflexion ermöglichen (auf kurzem Raum):

1. Was war gut?
2. Was war tricky?
3. Was habe ich gelernt?
4. Was ist meine nächste Aktion aus den gemachten Erfahrungen?

Die Möglichkeit, drei unterschiedliche Konferenzen in ähnlichem Kontext an einem Ort zu veranstalten ermöglichte das Auftreten und Nutzen von Serendipity (so kam es zu überraschenden Verbindungen am Kaffeetisch, oder auch neuen Gesprächspartnern zum Thema 'Boundary Spanner' nach Fragen im Forum). Die Veranstaltung auf relativ begrenztem Raum mit zwei Orten auf dem Campus der TU Dresden (HSZ und Fakultät Informatik) zu beschränkten führte zu leichtem Austausch der unterschiedlichen Communities). Die angebotenen Hashtags wurden über alle Konferenztage intensiv verwendet - was ich mir übrigens auch für Business Konferenzen wünsche.
Tricky war, dass es noch immer nicht eine App für's iPhone, Android und andere mobilen Geräte gibt, die alle Veranstaltungen in einer visuellen Darstellung mit AR oder ähnlichem ermöglicht (als Überblick). Eine Übersicht als Twitterwall ist künftig -aus meiner Sicht- ein Muss. Hier gibt es in Zusammenhang mit Ambient Displays und Augmented Reality sicher noch weitere Anknüpfungspunkte, die ich gerne auch in meinem Action Research Projekt in diesem Bereich ausbauen und diskutieren möchte (diesmal kam es nicht dazu, doch mal sollte niemals "nie" sagen ;-)).
Es gibt noch viel zu tun, Web 2.0, Social Tools und Social Media sind noch nicht Alltag, auch nicht im Umfeld der Konferenzteilnehmer. Als gestern aus Kanada eine aufgezeichnete (und ausgezeichnete) Keynote im HSZ übertragen wurde leerte sich der Raum schlagartig und Kommentare wie dieser waren zu finden. Aus der persönlichen Erfahrung insbesondere in länderübergreifenden Lernprojekte über mehr als 8 (!) Zeitzonen hinweg hat ein "konservierter" Vortrag ganz andere Qualitäten - wenn auch nicht einfach in die eigenen Arbeitsweisen zu integrieren. Bitte mehr von dieser Art von Konferenz, die das Gespräch über Disziplingrenzen hinweg ermöglicht!!!
... das Gespräch zu Nutzung von Social Tools, Social Networks und Social Media im Gange halten auch und insbesondere über Disziplin-, Ort- und Zeitgrenzen hinweg - das Web bietet alle Möglichkeiten, wir müssen sie nur finden und elegant nutzen (was für unser persönliches Mental Model von Lernen und Lehren passend ist).

Juwelen - Gems Rare & Polished

Since the beginning of July the regular stage performances were stopped for the overall needed summer holidays. The ensemble from singers to ballet dancers and regular staff was off to recharge their "batteries" once more - only to kickstart in late August for the second season of the "new era".

Dresden in those days was crowded with international folks from all around the globe being also on their holidays. I wondered, "How would they will have a chance to learn about Semperoper and the awesome stuff to see?" They shouldn't wait longer - on 21st of August the session restarted. And it restarted with a "big bang" so to say.

Weeks ago I saved myself some tickets for the main rehearsal of the new ballet performance 'Jewels" on last Thursday (even some Goethe Institute students could be made interested to come, actually from Moscow). This time the performance (actually rehearsal) time was quite different to what a normal go to the Semperoper would be. 11 o'clock AM, and the heat was on (actually more a day of performing 'Street Scene') around sweaty 30°C. I thought by myself, "How easy it is for the 'knowledge worker' in the web age, just moving the fingers of the laptop keyboard. But the members of the Semperoper Ballett Company dancing 'Jewels' that morning in this heat definitely deserve more than just appreciation by applause. Having the choreography in mind, interacting with the team, and coping with the heat is definitely something not easily seen from the distance."

The reality definitely outreached my deepest expectations. And it just was the beginning of something greater, a bit fuzzy to grab - yet after 'emeralds' and 'rubies' the dedicated crowd of ballet fans was asked to let the company finish off their daily work alone. Quite understandable. This fueled our's and others' desire to see for the premiere on that coming Saturday.

27th of August 2011 the first premiere of the season - George Balanchine's 'Jewels', a three-piece ballet evening.

... where to start? Too much in order to express the whole evening, which was one of the best ever, and one could clearly see that it is the SEMPEROPER BALLETT which brings the 'jewels' not just to sparkle in the stunningly set light (congrats to the folks managing the lighting - I wonder when there will be a time accompanying one evening and get the special feeling from this perspective?).

Three parts that could not have been more different in costumes, expressions, fun & joy, figures, music, and last but least the protagonists.

Good - Semperoper Ballett with all dancers from top principal ones to the corps de ballet and really new elevens, putting only five performances for this season increases certainly attraction, enthusiastic audience (there was not much missing for standing ovations in the end), new dance pairs which always show what great company we have here in Dresden, meeting Boris Michael Gruhl during the break and seeing his sparking eyes and enthusiastic voice as we had a short chat with him

Tricky - it is always challenging for me to sit at one place over the complete course of the performance (my mind urges me to shift perspective and grab new learnings about what is going on on stage, in the audience, and the whole "field" of the house which enables such magical moments as experienced that night

Learned - the team of Semperoper ticket service at Schinkelwache always open and providing extra info, thanking especially Mrs. Ansel, a former ballet dancer of Semperoper Ballett for her deep insight around Balanchine and that Semperoper Ballett is one of the few (!) in the world being licensed to dance Balanchine ballets, for sparkling 'jewels' on stage or in life it needs the main stone and the adjacent ones even more to bring them into visibility - congratulations to ALL DANCERS equally :)

Action - Looking forward to meet some of the dancers of 'Jewels' soon and learn more about the "hidden" work of ballet and what can be learned from the artist for life (this has been sparked by Edgar Schein's article about it)

(1) seeing the greater picture, systems thinking, zooming from tele to wide-angle
(2) questioning the unquestionable, being a ruthless "pain in the ..."
(3) looking around the "open sky" of possible opportunities, across boundaries
(4) connecting people, ideas, and concepts (even though it seems not obvious of value at first)
(5) .... passionately work on small experiments to bring the larger vision into existence

Was können die drei Orte gemein haben? Auf den ersten Blick nicht erkennbar. Doch während ich hier im Starbucks Altmarkt in Dresden sitze und arbeite, gehen mir die Worte eines Freundes durch den Kopf "Das ist wohl Dein zweites Wohnzimmer?".

Was ist das Verbindende von Wohnzimmern? Sie sind in der Regel größer als andere Zimmer in Wohnung oder Haus. Wenig Möbel und freier Blick - "offener Himmel" für freie Gedanken.

Was das Social Web im Unermesslichen bietet (und damit so manchen Zeitgenossen schockt) bietet sich im kleineren Rahmen rund um uns herum. Manchmal nehmen wir es als gegeben hin und denken gar nicht darüber nach, warum wir uns eigentlich an bestimmten Orten wohlfühlen.

BMW Werk Leipzig, wo ich das Glück hatte über fast fünf Jahre inmitten des Zentralgebäudes, von Zaha Hadid entworfen, zu arbeiten. 700 Mitarbeiter in einer über mehrere wie in eine Landschaft kreierte Büroumgebung, waren die Inspirationsquelle, die meiner Arbeit als Innovateur von Logistik- und Kommunikationsprozessen entgegen kamen. Der Blick ist teilweise über 200 m frei - zoom-out und zoom - Perspektive und Gespräche in ständigem Wechsel. Details in der Nähe und der Überblick in der Weite, in schneller Folge hintereinanderweg, wie beliebt.

In der Semperoper ganz ähnlich - 40 Vorstellungen von der 5. Reihe bis 4. Rang Stehplatz. Doch wo habe ich das Gefühl am meisten von der Bühne, dem Publikum und dem "Feld" des Raums mitzunehmen? Es ist der 4. Rang, nicht gebunden einen Sitz, frei die Perspektive zu wechseln, von links nach rechts, vielleicht sogar einen freien Platz erheischen oder die Treppe.

Beim Blick aus dem Starbucks überkommt mich ein ähnliches Gefühl. Sollte dies einer dieser magischen Orte in der Stadt sein, der so viel mehr birgt als "nur" den amerikanischen Kaffeetraum?

No Vacation for Innovators

In the midst of Neustadt, at a small café, Café Combo, new ideas are bred on how Dresden will become the next attractive hotspot (which it BTW already is) known to the world outside of Saxony and Germany. The two "crazy guys" are well under way, and have gathered quite a remarkable crowd from all across the globe around them to make that happen. It seems like in the Asterix stories, all economic innovation is doomed by state funding and large corporations, yet there are small pockets of innovative and creative folks in the City of Dresden who stand up and go another way - towards collective cooperation and bringing the power of social networks back from the Web down to the cobblestoned streets of good old Dresden.

Due to an U.S. embassy report in 2008 "In 2007, this number [US American tourists in Saxony] increased to 57,958 (as part of groups of 9 or more) who stayed a total of 140,424 nights" (by U.S. Consulate General Leipzig. November 2008). Similar numbers are probably to be taken into account for numerous other countries where people due to the shiny glare of Berlin and Prague are not yet aware of the beauty of Dresden.

How on earth can one explore the hidden beauty of Dresden apart from its obvious and most impressive museums, opera house (Semperoper) in just a few days? Even after 18 years of being part of the City I find every day new unseen surprises, such as DRESDENconcept, SLUB, The Heide (the park-like green outskirts spreading from Neustadt up North), or many other small spots of interest.

To attract curious visitors to not only come to Dresden yet to co-create the future of this awesome place with remarkable citizens, is what #InnoBay is about.

Der heutige Sonntag brachte die Überraschung im Vorbereitungsstress zu #nbj2011 ("Imagine a future where innovations emerge from global partnerships across sectors, (also the arts field), etc.") als ich die Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung aufschlug:

Der zweiseitige Text - Oper und Kultur ist demnach definitiv im öffentlich Fokus - begann mit einer unerfreulichen Begebenheit aus Zwickau, Sachsen. Am Ende der vergangenen Spielzeit wurde die eindrucksvoll inszenierte Oper Genoveva nach der Pause jäh unterbrochen von einem Appell des Ersten Kapellmeisters an das Publikum und Bitte um Unterschriften gegen die geplanten Kulturkürzungen des Freistaats Sachsen. Was in Zwickau passierte ist ähnlich auch in den Landesbühnen Radebeul kürzlich noch viel dramatischer passiert - dort geht es um das "Aus" des Hauses.

Der Bericht - übrigens mit grandiosen Aufnahmen deutscher Opernhäuser gespickt - endet mit "Am Ende lässt sich über die Oper nicht eindeutig ökonomisch urteilen. Es bleibt die politische Entscheidung einer Bürgergesellschaft, ob sie diese deutsche Tradition fortsetzen will oder nicht."

.... PUNKT ... war es das gewesen? Gab es einen umfangreichen Dialog, zu "Was bringt Oper für die Wirtschaft, die Bildung, kulturellen Austausch?"

Meines Wissens nicht. Sollten hier Kürzungschritte unternommen werden von Politikern, die sich zwar auf Premieren ab und an sehen lassen, doch Oper oft wohl eher als "nettes Beiwerk" und "Touristenmagnet" sehen, ohne alle Möglichkeiten, Visionen und Chancen der Zukunft in Betracht gezogen zu haben.

Fragen, die durch meinen Kopf rasen. 40 (oder so) Besuche in den letzten 10 Monaten in der Semperoper Dresden haben (mir) ein vollkommen anderes Bild von Oper, Ballett und dem Sinn und Nutzen für eine zukunftsorientierte Bürgergesellschaft eines weltoffenen und innovativen Sachsen (und Deutschlands allgemein) eröffnet.

Mein persönliches Fazit und Ausblick (allzu gerne hätte ich Ralph Bollmann, übrigens in Berlin zu Wirtschaftspolitik zuständig, leider ohne Angabe einer Email-Adresse, zu einem Dialog eingeladen) als passionierter Volkswirtschaftschaftler und Systemsthinker ist doch ein anderer.

Good: sehr gute Übersicht über die deutsche Opernlandschaft, opulente Bilder z.B. vom Wiesbadener Staatstheaters und des Mecklenburger Staatstheater Schwerin, Bericht in einer überregionalen Sonntagszeitung (am Wochenende hat man doch ein wenig mehr Zeit zum Lesen)
Tricky: Fokussierung auf die "sichtbaren" ökonischen Größen, die sich in den Budgets der Länder wiederfinden und die Kultur so "teuer" machen
Learned: die wirtschaftlichen Effekte von Opernhäusern und die Implikationen auf kulturellen Austausch werden selten bis gar nicht betrachtet, gerade in ostdeutschen Städten mit relativ geringem Bevölkerungsanteil ausländischer Mitbürger zeigt sich insbesondere in den Ballettensembles ein Mikrokosmos der Welt (siehe Ensemblemitglieder des Semperoper Balletts, bei ca. 80 Mitgliedern sind ca. zwei Dutzend Herkunftsländer vertreten und die Quoten sind eindeutig zu Gunsten der ausländischen Tänzerinnen und Tänzern verschoben); Oper und Ballett eröffnen für Forscher, Wirtschaftler und Politiker gleichmaßen ein differenziertes Bild vom Heute und der Zukunft (viele der Balletttänzer z.B. beschäftigen sich mit Zukunftsforschung, was mich selbst zunächst überrascht hat, doch dann auf den zweiten Blick verständlich ist)

Francesco Hayez: eine Reise ins Italien des XIX Jahrhunderts

Wenn Sie nach Mailand zum Urlaub diesen Sommer kommen, empfehle ich Ihnen eine sehr interessante Ausstellung zu besuchen, die bis zum 25.09.2011 in der Gemäldegallerie Breras (einer meiner Lieblingsorte!) stattfindet.

Durch die Bilder des italienischen Malers Francesco Hayez wird man ins Italien des XIX Jahrhunderts geführt. Es wird eine facettierte Reise sein, weil die strenge Verbindng zwischen Bildkunst, Literatur und Musik offen gezeigt ist.

Der Besucher wird Musik, Schreiben und Bildern des XIX Jahrhunderts treffen und sehen wie diese miteineinder plaudern und sie sich gegenseitig beeinflussen. Eine wirklich schöne Erfahrung!

Der Maler Francesco Hayez, in Venedig geboren, hat ein Stück seines Lebens in Mailand verbracht. Hier hat Hayez Manzoni (Schriftsteller) und Verdi (Komponist) getroffen und beide gut kennengelernt. Diese drei Menschen sind drei Säulen der italienischen Geschichte des XIX Jahrhunderts geworden.

Die Werke aller drei sind eng miteinander verbunden, wie man an den vielen Bildern in der Austellung sehen kann. Verdis Musik und Manzonis Sätze integrieren die Ausstellung.

Hayezs Bild "I vespri siciliani" (die revolutionären Bewegungen in Sizilien) beeinflusste Verdis Oper "I vespri siciliani"

Hayezs Bild "I due Foscari" (die zwei Foscari) wurde einigen Jahre später von Verdi aufgenommen in die Oper "I due Foscari"

Hayezs Bild "L'assedio di Gerusalemme" (die Belagerung von Jerusalem) ist in Verdis Oper "I Lombardi alla prima crociata" (die Lombarden im ersten Kreuzzug) gezeigt.

Hayezs Bild "Ritratto dell'Innominato" (Portrait der Namenlosen) zeigt einen der Protagonisten der wichtigsten Oper der Literatur Manzonis "I promessi sposi" (Die versprochenen Ehegatten).

Hayezs Bild "Il Carmagnola" (Der Carmagnola) wurde von Manzonis "Il conte di Camagnola" (Der Graf von Carmagnola) beeinflusst.

Trotz dieser Ausstellung, die von vielen ausländischen Besuchern besucht wird, sind alle Informationen über die Verbindung zwischen Bildern, Licteratur und Musik leider nur in der italienischer Sprache verfügbar.

Matinee der Palucca Hochschule: Today's children are ruling tomorrow's world

It's a bit weird to think that our little children are ruling the world, but this is the truth! In a few years they will physically have the power to decide of their future and of our future. This process, however, is already in progress.

Parents and society always work to create good enviroments for children, what about working to create good children for enviroments? (with enviroments I do not mean nature only but all the different aspects of society).

26/06/2011 Sunday morning - Semperoper. The Palucca Hochschule fuer Tanz has it's annual performance. The Semperoper is full, parents, relatives, friends and curious people are all there to see the show.

The students of the Palucca Hochschule are children and teenagers, not proper adults yet, but we all expect to see a great performance. To be honest the pieces to perform are not so easy!

What we are going to see on stage, it's what in future we will expect from them. They will improve their abilities and make lot of experiences, in the country and abroad, but the seed is already there, in their heart, in their soul. They are already living the future. Their way to move and behave is the mirror of what is to come in a few years. What does it mean? Well, something very easy: if we guide our children towards arts (figurative and/or performing), if we teach them the love for the Beauty, the value to work in a team and to feel a team, we will build their future and give them the correct tools to improve it and live life fully.

This is not an easy task, requires time, hard work, many efforts and waivers but the result is excellent as all the students of the Palucca Hochschule showed us.

At the end of almost two hours performance no one of them looked tired, sad or unsatisfied. They all looked happy for the work done as single dancer and as team and this general satisfying feeling could be felt by the audience. Lots of unending applauses called them back on stage many times. All the times they came back with a wider smile stamped on their faces.

Congratulations to the students, all very talented. Congratulations to the rector Prof. Jason Beechey and to the teachers for the excellent work done. Congratulations to the parents that made this possible (it's not easy today to teach children to love arts and to help them to live their dreams). Congratulations to all the people who help these children to go on and who encouraged them when they most needed support.

The base of adult life is build since we are children as we saw last Sunday morning at Semperoper.

Cinderella: Who says it is only for children?

25/06/2011 afternoon. Sitting in Semper 2 diretcly in the scene, I patiently wait that Cinderella starts, not knowing exactly what it's expecting me! A string on the floor delineates the space in front of me, separating the audience from the stage, a kindly request to leave the space free. A few minutes of patience and all will start I repeat in my mind...just a few minutes more and you will be guided in a new dimension, a fairy-tale demension. Actually, looking around me, I'm not the only adult here. Most of the audience is made by grown-ups. Is this Cinderella a fairy-tale for adults?

The lights are switched off, the show starts!

Three funny dancers appear on stage: they are the Stepmother and the two Stepsisters. They move like one mind in three bodies, through their excellent dancing abilities they express feelings and emotions (I always find interesting to see how dancers give voice to emotions without saying one word but using only body and mimic, not and easy job I must say!Congratulations to Raphael Coumes-Marquet -Stepmother - Claudio Cangialosi and Jon Vallejo - Stepsisters - for the great job done). This trio made me really laugh and brought me back to my childhood when all around seemed to be easy and "normal".

Then Cinderella come on scene, a beautiful and excellent dancer (Anna Merkulova). Ralf told me she is good and after seeing her dancing with my own eyes, I can only confirm she really is. Light in movements and able to communicate emotions, she made my heart beat and stop beating according to the "moment" she brought on stage.

All the show lasted one hour but to me it seemed like one day, I felt into the action and lived phisycally the turn of day and night.

All dancers made a great job! Congratulation!

What more...great scenography made of few items, leaving enough room to the performance. Lovely the funny wig weared by the Stepmother and the Stepsisters, it helped them to enter into the role.

Beautiful music, loving Tchaikovsky it could not be different!

I really enjoyed the show and at the end of it I can say that Cinderella is a fairy-tale for adults too. The desires, feelings and emotions performed on stage are part of our daily life. When we are children we do not have eyes to see them, too ingénue for them but once we become adults we recognize them and we can choose which role we want to play on the life stage, if Stepmother/Stepsister or Cinderella.

Eine Ballett-Story in vier Akten

Manchmal ist das Leben so voller Überraschungen, dass man als Mensch kaum hinterherkommt. Doch warum nicht einfach treiben lassen wie ein Surfer in der Brandung und die nächste große Welle nehmen? Was folgt ist eine spontan choreographierte Ankündigung eines überwältigenden Geburtstagswochenendes, das viel -oder soll ich sagen, alles- mit Ballett, Semperoper, und Überraschungen zu tun hat. Reichen die Eindrücke in kurzen Worten, um die Bilder zu ersetzen, die es wert wären hinzugefügt zu werden? Es ist einen Versuch wert!

Es ist fünf Minuten vor 18 Uhr, auf der Suche nach Karten für Cinderella am darauffolgenden Samstag finde ich mich einige Sekunden später in der 1. Reihe in Semper 2 wieder, wo ich meine 2. Vorstellung von Cinderella mit neuem Besetzungsteam erlebe. Wieder tosender Beifall in dem kleinen Kubus, der sich wie das "hässliche Entlein" in Hans Christian Andersens Märchen zu einem "weißen Schwan" entwickelt (bei denen es auf Nähe zum Publikum und die subtilen Elemente des Tanzes stärker im Vordergrund stehen, da man sie als Zuschauer aus der 1.-3. (mehr gibt es nicht) Reihe genau erkennen kann). Semperoper besteht eben nicht nur aus dem Großen Haus, sondern besonders und in erster Linie aus dem Team, das auf der Bühne zu erleben ist. Da bietet Semper 2 ganz neue, nahe, und erhebende Momente (aufgrund der Nähe). Kaum wieder in den regenverhangenen Juniabend entlassen finde ich mich auf dem Hoffest der Semperoper wieder, freundlich aufgenommen in die Mitte der mir überwiegend unbekannten Gesichter, die die Produktionen erst möglich machen mit allem was hinter den Kulissen passiert. Doch so mancher kennt mich bereits und beim Fachsimpeln über das Färben von Stoffen erfahre ich mehr über 'Street Scene'.

Karten für den darauffolgenden Samstag konnte ich nicht ergattern, denn ausverkauft heißt ausverkauft, da hilft nur ein frühes Kommen am kommenden Abend.

Mein Geburtstag ist bereits in vollem Gang, die Überraschungen geben sich die Klinke in die Hand, meine Facebook-Pinnwand füllt sich mit Glückwünschen aus Kapstadt, Vancouvers, Manila, Dresden, Rheinhessen, .... das Leben ist schön!

17:30 Uhr - Andrang vor Semper 2 - Karten für Cinderella zunächst Fehlanzeige - wir warten auf der Coach, fünf Minuten vor Beginn frage ich dann doch noch mal unschuldig nach, ob doch noch Karten vorhanden sind (nicht, dass wir "vergessen" worden wären) und zu unserer Überraschung, "Ja es gibt noch welche! Möchten Sie doch noch welche? Ich dachte, sie hätten andere Möglichkeiten gehabt." - wunderbar, wir sind drin, alles voll (war ja ausverkauft ;-)) und schon wieder auf der Bank in der 1. Reihe ein Platz am Rand - "Bist Du nicht Ralf?" ertönt es von der Banknachbarin, "Ja, das bin ich." antworte ich und schon erfahre ich, dass meine Gedanken zum Semperoper Ballett auf Twitter, Facebook und dem Blog mehr vom Ensemble gelesen werden, als ich anfangs vermutete - erneut eine wunderbare Vorstellung insbesondere von Fabien Voranger und Anna Merkulova, die erst seit Freitag in dieser Konstellation zusammen tanzen (!) - "Ein hervorragendes Team kann das eben!" (kurzfristiger Wechsel von Tanzpaaren) so mein kurzer Kommentar in Richtung meiner Banknachbarin, die sichtlich stolz ist auf ihre Kollegen - eine grandiose und immer wieder bis ins Komische gehende Vorstellung, Balletttänzer sind doch auch stets mit gehörigem Schalk im Nacken versehen, wie die "böse Stiefmutter" zum Ausdruck bringt (da hatte jemand sichtlich Spaß :-)) - die "Überraschung" zeigte sich in den letzten drei Minuten der Vorstellung (wahre Klasse zeigt sich erst in solchen Momenten - mehr dazu im abschließenden PresencingStatus am Ende des Berichts)

Erst am Vortag, als wir in der Neustadt zufällig Aaron S. Watkin (Ballettdirekter des Semperoper Ballett) und Jason Beechey (Rektor der Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden) trafen, war uns bewusst geworden, dass ein weiteres Ballett-Highlight auf sich warten sollte:

Die Matinee der Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden

Ganz ähnlich (mit einem Potpourri) fing meine Leidenschaft im Herbst 2010 für Oper, Ballett und die Semperoper an: mit einem Preisträgerkonzert. Diesmal eine Ballett Matinee.

Es war grandios, besonders die Vielzahl (die Palucca Hochschule für Tanz strahlt bis nach Spanien ;-)) der unterschiedlichen Stücke (Balenchines "Copèllia", Holger Beys "Vivid Whirl" (erinnerte mich in Ansätzen an die 'Jets' und 'Sharkes' in der Westside Story von Leonard Bernstein) öffneten den Kopf für Neues und Verbindung mit Bekanntem. "Ist es das, wie man zu Innovationen kommt?" (bei mir habe ich den Eindruck, dass es so ist und es sollte sich im anschließenden Überraschungskaffeeplaudern zu Dritt im Café Alte Meister (das "inoffizielle" Operncafé) zeigen.

PresencingStatus zu den letzten drei Tagen (insbesondere in Bezug auf Ballett & Semperoper)

Good: Herzliches Willkommen und Gespräch beim Hoffest Semperoper; Cinderella wie stets bei Semperoper Ballett Produktionen wunderbar (!) und berührend (Anna, Raphael und Fabien sind wahre Pantomimen - neben der tänzerischen Perfektion); Matinee der Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden mit großen Talenten der nächsten Jahre (unbedingt im Auge behalten und auch die Palucca Hochschule auf Facebook etwas eingehender verfolgen), Überraschungstreffen (nicht wirklich nach diesem Tweet) von Anne gemeinsam mit Angela heute im Rundfoyer in der Pause der Matinee der Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden getroffen und anschließend noch zum Kaffeehausplaudern über Oper, Ballett und Co. im Café Alte Meister (hier wurden einige der zukunftsweisenden Visionen ausgeheckt zwischen drei passionierten Opern- und Ballettfans - die nächste Gelegenheit bietet sich am 01. Juli ab 22 Uhr - an neuem Ort nach 'La bohème' - für Details mich anschreiben, denn Platz ist beschränkt, Gesprächssprache Englisch - Interesse?)
Tricky: wie immer die Vielzahl der Eindrücke verarbeiten (10 Finger beim Schreiben sind schon ein Segen, doch das Gehirn tickt schneller ;-)); Cinderella am Freitag - alles verlief nach Plan (nach persönlichem Gefühl etwas später begonnen als sonst) bis drei Minuten vor End - mitten in den letzten Formationen von Fabien und Anna schnarrte (manchen sehr bekannte Stimme) es von der Decke "Wir bitten, die Damen ...., Herren ...., sowie den Kinderchor auf die Bühne" (im Großen Haus lief 19 Uhr 'Carmen' an und die Ansage, die sonst regulär in den gesamten Gebäuden der Semperoper (in allen Gängen und Zimmern) ertönt, "verirrte" sich in Semper 2 (wo sie nix zu suchen hatte), die Einzigen, die sich irritieren ließen war für wenige Sekunden das Publikum - Fabien und Anna tanzten professionell und ohne dass man ihnen etwas anmerken konnte weiter, als sei die Stimme niemals erschallt (GENIAL und meine äußerste Hochachtung (!))
Learned: in den ungeplanten Momenten des Lebens ("Hier ist noch eine Karte für Cinderella", nicht geplante Ansage inmitten der Aufführung, und was einem so aus dem persönlichen Leben einfällt) zeigt sich das Lernen von er überraschendsten und auch möglicherweise effektivsten Seite (auch wenn solche Momente, insbesondere, wenn man zum Haus gehört, einen in den Boden versinken lassen für einen Moment - wie meine Nachbarin) - Shit happens! If it does, cope with it in the most creative way. Stay on track and be authentic!
Action: Unbedingt herausfinden [Wer kann hier helfen?], wer die Sprecherin während des Stücks 'Set in Stone' (by H. Viera) war, die während der Tanzperformance von Quantenmechanik, unerklärbaren mentalen Verbindungen, und ähnlichem sprach; ein bisschen über die Choreographen und die Stücke der Matinee recherchieren; SemperChat (Plaudern nach der Vorstellung bei einem Glas Wein was einen so bewegt hat, welche Ideen es gezündet hat) als neue interkulturelle Kaffeehaus-Initiative in Dresden entwickeln.

When Canada hits Dresden - again at Canada Day on 1st July

This past weekend was truly a different one here in Dresden. In Neustadt on the other side of the Dresden Altstadt, the BRN (Bunte Republik Neustadt running expected 100.000 visitors crazy), at Semperoper a new premiere is on plan for Sunday, already on Saturday "La bohème" ran in front of full house. This still gives me the question, "What exactly makes some productions fill up completely to the last seat, others only gradually over time?" In this case it was a rather old production dated back to the time Semperoper had not existed in its present house in the early 1980's.

Jessica Muirhead, from Canada currently based in England announced her coming to Dresden a couple of days back - on Twitter. She's singing Mimi and her fans will have certainly picked up that message - if missed Saturday's performance there is one more on 1st of July (which happens to be Canada Day - so you can expect some activities around it - any Canadians around in Dresden?).

Rushing in late (living just a stone throw away) that evening I quickly realized a full house. "This is going to be something special." I should not be mistaken!

7pm the curtains draws aside and a wonderful set, making me feel being in Paris again (memories from the 80's racing back), appears on stage. What I sense it that I much more focus on the singing and the play on stage than on the music itself (which is more of an enable of the whole - including the audience). Starting the feeling of the creative class not being accepted by mainstream society to what they produce the voices included the anger and disappointment. The young bohemians were struggling to get their art into a decent living were overwhelmed when one of them returned with some money - off they went to the city, like a tree leaf in the wind. Rodolfo (exeptionally played and sang by Wookyung Kim) however stayed a bit longer, and here the "field" shifted as Mimi (a neighbour) and sung by Jessica Muirhead, the Canadian lyric soprano, knocks on the door. A voice that immediately sent shivers down the spine as her voice cut through the vast opera house like being amplified by some hidden technology. Not quite so - it was her real voice! Amazing how some voices connect and resonate right away.

The plot even though put into late 19th century Paris is 21st century life feeling with the "new time" bohèmians of the digital and creative class pretty much in a similar situation. New creative work that has not had its equivalent in past centuries, decades, or years. The established business world does not appreciate -yet- the mostly creative work of that class. The use of new technologies and openly connecting with like-minded people across country, distance, and discipline boundaries seems to scare off the traditionalists. Pretty much the same could be seen on stage especially in the 2nd picture which showed the vivid activities around the café where mostly upper class where served. However between the bohèmians and the mainstream/ upper class there happened to be a new sort of connector: a boundary spanner (bound in a way to both parties). This one was Musetta, played by Junges Ensemble member Nadja Mchantaf, with exeptional play and singing - again the 'field' shifted. What has been just the bohèmians in the first picture now drew out into a larger crowd, Mimi and Musetta being the connection hubs. Accelerating and rich personal experience within the masses that circle the café in the winterly day comes to a point where reflection, deep though and looking for the ever new makes it necessary to emerge. The 3rd picture - well in the carneval time by now- based in a dark street scene actually with little action marks that next turning point in the story. Rodolfo tells his friend that he has broken with Mimi - what he does not know that she is listening to his words hidden close by.

Only a picture later we could learn that even though a binding thought still ran through Rodolfo's heart toward Mimi, that due to the sudden (yet not unexpected death) of Mimi was cut off. Cut off as quickly as one own's mind had to grasp the situation and emotionally interweave with own experiences of the past.

What are the findings after more than two hours of play in stage beamed into the "old" Paris of the day and the "bohèmian world"?

Learnings from that evening from my -again- very personal view (others in the audience may have seen it different):

Good: always take the chance when offered (even at short notice) - I did not plan to see "La bohème" and quite positively surprised of what it turned out to be.
Tricky: grasping the story and the "larger picture" behind it has taken (and still does) quite long.
Learned: Letting go your mind off in the "open space" where memories and action on stage can connect only happens when you don't have any expectations of the evening (other than enjoying it for the joy of it); staying on the course of your dreams and inner calling (even though this seems often rough, unfulfilling, useless, or diminished by others) - not giving up and growing on the small improvements over time will pay off; coming back to my initial question up on top, I'd say it is much easier for people to visit a performance that one knows to expect - yet does that really open the eyes and hearts to new findings about how the performance connects to present reality? Action: learning to understand and act upon the fact that innovation (technological or social) always emerges on the very edge of current reality.

... what I'd really appreciate very much would be the ability to easily find actual pictures of the performances (especially the older ones like this one) to be used on a Creative Commons basis in order to transport the emotional feeling of the opera on stage here on a blog (characters alone on screen are not that thrilling and heart taking after all ;-))

Kurt Weill kommt nach Hause - an die Semperoper

Heute Abend, 19.06.2011, Premiere zu "Street Scene" von Kurt Weill an der Semperoper in Dresden. Eine Inszenierung der ganz anderen Art verglichen mit "La bohème" von Puccini, die ich gestern sah (Bericht steht noch aus).

Ganz kurz mein persönliches Fazit in bewährter PresencingStatus-Manier (vier kurze Fragen):

Good: eine perfekte Einführung in das Stück durch die Chefdramaturgin der Semperoper, Nora Schmid; ein sagenhaftes Aufgebot an jungen und erfahrenen Sängern, auch Solorollen von Teilnehmern aus dem Kinderchor der Semperoper und der Staatsoperette Dresden; Bühnenbild, das überbordende Eindrücke für jeden Augenblick hatte (wohin schauen?); herausragend (gespielt und gesungen) Sabine Brohm (Anna Maurrant), Carolina Ulrich (Rose Maurrant), Markus Marquardt (Frank Maurrant); eine Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden mit Jonathan Darlington am Pult in einem Metier, das so völlig untypisch ist (Jazz und Blues orientierte Passagen); es ist bewegend das Werk eines bereits an der Semperoper tätigen Komponisten zu erleben, der 1933 aufgrund seines jüdischen Glaubens nach Amerika auswandern musste (was er wohl gefühlt haben mag, hätte er im Publikum heute gesessen?)
Tricky: in der Pause traf ich einige kulturbekannte Gesichter, die mit der Inszenierung nicht wirklich d'accord gingen, doch das ist der Reiz an Oper, wenn sie emotional aufwühlt und provoziert - man muss es eben dann auch ein wenig aushalten, mit den eigenen und fremden Emotionen hauszuhalten; Orchester war ob der besonderen Besetzung (wesentlich weniger Streicher als üblich) gegenüber manchen Stimmen auf der Bühne zu dominant (insbesondere Sabine Brohm und Valda Wilson sind besonders zu erwähnen, deren Stimmen sich wunderbar und klar von der Musik abhoben und auf Augenhöhe mit dem Orchester waren)
Learned: versuche die bekannten Kritiker der Szene zu finden in der Pause und nach ihren Eindrücken zu fragen (sie können so ganz anders sein ;-)); "unbekannte" Autoren wie Elmer Rice sind es nur solange bis man neugierig einen Blick hinter die Kulissen bei Wikipedia geworfen hat (dann jedoch ergeben die Punkte einen Sinn) [manchmal frage ich mich, vorher diese unbändige Neugier bei mir kommt ;-)]
Action: .... das geschieht gerade mit diesem Kurzbericht

Meeting different cultures opens your mind

A few days ago I was invited to take part to a meeting about the situation in Tunisia and in Syria. Two representative of these countries were there to give us an idea from the inside.

They explaned us that these revolutions were driven by common people, not belonging to the wealthy part of the society and that also women had an important role as men. Mothers, wifes, daughters next to men.

To the question, which was the role of internet in the revolution, they both answered that internet was strictly controlled, that a sort of "copy" of facebook was created to avoid that the information were widespread to the rest of the world.

An important difference between the two countries was made very clear by the Syrian representative. The great importance the media gave to the situation in Tunisia and the lack of interest given to Syria. Why something like this is happening? Is life more important in one country than in another? Why is life not prevented and protected everywhere?

Ronald Coase - Forethinker of Digital Disruption?

1937 Ronald Coase wrote an article "The Nature of the Firm" which I came across on my flight back with Cathay Pacific from #gathering11 a couple of days ago. I had restarted reading "The Power of Pull" by John Hagel & John Seely Brown and stumbled across Coase.

In the early part of the last century the entrepreneurial started companies such as Siemens, GM, ... became great (and big of course) due to the fact that the density of the connectivity within the organization brought scale of efficiency with it. Can we as a society learn from what found entry in a Noble Prize in 1991? I am quite sure we can as my "economics guts"is telling me. "Economic theory has suffered in the past from a failure to state clearly its assumptions" (quoted: Ronald Coase, "The Nature of the Firm", Economica 4, no. 16 (November 1937), 386-405; see first lines on left).

Are we at a similar turning point in time when technological improvement accelerates in exponential manner once again? This time the signs are different in detail yet the patterns are pretty similar.

Yet the question may be asked, "Do we have the common economic language in use that enables a dialogue and collective action as a whole?"

Reading thoroughly Ronald Coase's paper back from 1937 will certainly open up the conversation and deeper understanding of what seems in the digital age so unpredictable and yet is just another form of economic evolution (free emergence of new species of businesses, value creating ideas) and development (putting business models into reality and sustain them).

Living in a THRIVABLE WORLD with common understanding (& wording) of what happens in the economic context will certainly move the collective body of wisdom. What is your gut feeling?

DISCLOSURE: back in 1991 while studying economics in Bamberg, Ronald Coase just got the Nobel Prize for Economics. I could not possibly think of how this episode of life would crawl back due to the fact being called in on a mission to connect in Down Under - coincidence? Maybe, maybe not ;-)

Sollte Dresden doch nicht am Rande liegen dessen, was in der Welt gerade passiert? Oft wird heute noch vom "Tal der Ahnungslosen" gesprochen und die geografische Lage -fast- am östlichen Rand der Republik als Argument herangezogen.

Doch Diamenten müssen nicht unbedingt groß sein und jederman ins Auge stechen.

Vor rund 450 Jahren war Sachsen und somit auch der Sitz der sächsischen Kurfürsten der Ort, von dem aus die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung (hier wurde neben Silber eine Vielzahl von Erfindungen und Innovationen getätigt) Deutschlands maßgeblich geprägt wurde. Allein die Erfindungen, die aus Dresden kamen können sich sehen lassen - und das weltweit. Darunter ist die einäugige Spiegelreflexkamera, der Kaffeefilter, die Filterzigarette, und auch der Bierdeckel - Dinge, die jedem von uns bekannt sind und die wir überall in der Welt wiederfinden. Wer weiß schon, dass diese Dinge ursprünglich aus Sachsen kommen?

Dresden steht im Schatten von Berlin, das zudem in seiner Funktion als Bundeshauptstadt einen besonderen Attraktivitätsfaktor für Unternehmen, insbesondere der Technologie- und Kreativbranche hat. Aufgrund der Nähe zu Lobbyorganisationen und den politischen Entscheidern, hat sich vor Kurzem auch Google entschieden dort ein Researchcenter zu eröffnen. Sicherlich auch getrieben durch die kontroversen Erfahrungen mit Google Streetview, die während der Erfassung der ersten deutschen Städte aus der Bevölkerung zu erfahren waren.

Ein weiterer attraktiver Standort kaum zwei Stunden Fahrzeit von Dresden entfernt ist Prag. Dort ist schon seit jeher ein Zentrum der Kunst und Musik gewesen, das zudem technische Innovationsfreude insbesondere im Softwarebereich in den letzten Jahren zeigt. Entrepreneure wie z.B. Dave Ruzius [http://theworks.cz] haben dort inzwischen Aktivitäten aufgenommen.

Was hat der Diamant Dresden zu bieten in diesem Dreieck und welche Rolle kann es künftig für den wirtschaftliche Entwicklung insbesondere für den Raum zwischen Dresden - Berlin - Prag spielen?

Wie bereits erwähnt ist Dresden in der Vergangenheit Magnet für Erfindungsgeist und Innovationen gewesen - und das seit Jahrhunderten. Ein wenig scheint es im Reigen der großen Nachbarn unterzugehen und an den Rand der Wahrnehmung gedrängt zu werden.. Reiseführer speziell über Dresden in anderen Sprachen gibt es so gut wie nicht auf dem Markt - lediglich Erwähnung der Stadt mit einigen Highlights finden sich in jedem Reiseführer über Deutschland oder Sachsen. Insbesondere auf Französisch existiert kein spezieller Reiseführer über diese Stadt, die jeder, der einmal dort war, in sein Herz geschlossen hat.

Wie stets im Leben weiß man selten das zu schätzen was direkt vor einem liegt insbesondere, wenn man Teil des städtischen Umfeldes ist. Die besondere Attraktivität entdeckt man erst, wenn man sich aus dem "Zentrum" wegbewegt und Reisen in die Ferne unternimmt - bevorzugt in andere Städte (wie ich es oft zu tun pflege). In den letzen Jahren waren Boston (USA), Muscat (Oman), Jyväskylä (Finnland), Amsterdam (Niederlande), Belfast (Nordirland), Dublin/ Cork (Irland), Decin (Tschechien) darunter, insbesondere weil der von mir passioniert betriebene Sport Ultimate Frisbee mich stets zu Turnieren außerhalb Deutschlands trieb.

Amplify Festival 2011

Diesmal verschlug es mich für sieben Tage auf die südliche Halbkugel, nach Sydney und Melbourne, zu zwei außergewöhnlichen Konferenzen der ganz anderen Art. Bedingt durch meine seit vielen Jahren gelebte Passion, Kunst, Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft kreativ zu verbinden und daraus Neues zu schaffen [Link zu Artikel in Semper!] bieten mir die sich ständig weiterentwickelnden sozialen Netzwerke wie Twitter, Facebook, PI Community, LinkedIn, XING zunächst die Möglichkeit neue Welten zu entdecken. Dabei offenbart sich immer wieder auf's Neue, wie in anderen Regionen der Erde z.B. Technologie im öffentlichen Nahverkehr eingesetzt wird (1996 als ich in Barcelona zu einem Sprachkurs war fielen mir die mit Klimaanlagen ausgestatteten Busse auf , die zudem damals bereits mit semi-durchsichtiger Ganzfahrzeugfolie beklebt waren - zur damaligen Zeit gab es Beides in Dresden bei der DVB AG nicht). Das Unerwartete kommt oft, besonders dann wenn es nicht ewartet wird - dann ist es an der Zeit schnell zu entscheiden, denn das Möglichkeitsfenster bleibt oft nur wenige Momente oder Tage geöffnet.

In diesem Fall begann es Dienstag vor genau zwei Wochen als ich einen Anruf erhielt - mit der "Vorwahl" 061… Wie sich nach wenigen Momenten herausstellte war dies nicht Darmstadt sondern die Ländervorwahl für Australien. Das fünfzehnminütige Telefonat endete mit "You now got a free ticket to Amplify Festival 2011 which will start next Monday. You only have to figure out how to get here!" - Whow, what to say?

Diese Momente ergeben sich nicht alle Tage, doch wenn sie vor einem auftauchen möchte man darauf vorbereitet sein. Insbesondere wenn man sich in einer recht prekären Situation befindet (finanziell als auch jobtechnisch - denn gegenwärtig beziehe ich wie so manch anderer in Dresden Hartz IV). Die Frage, "Was mach' ich jetzt? Wie finanziere ich den Flug und die Übernachtungen? Lohnt es sich für eine Woche ins "Unbekannte" zu fahren? Was werden Eltern, Freunde und die Agentur für Arbeit sagen?"

Donnerstagfrüh war der Gabelflug nach Sydney und Melbourne im Netz gebucht, Freitagnacht (kurz vor der Abreise nach Australien) die ersten zwei Nächte in Sydney gebucht (Tip aus einem Reiseführer, den ich mir erst am Nachmittag noch schnell bei Hugendubel in der Altmarktgalerie erstand worden war).

Was wäre gewesen, wenn die Chance nicht ergriffen worden wäre? Ich hätte eine Woche Dresden im Sommer erlebt, wäre zu "Dresden Gründerstadt" gegangen und alles wäre wie immer gewesen.

Doch es kam anders, ich wurde offiziell Twitterer und Blogger in Residence für die fünf Tage dauernde Innovationskonferenz Amplify Festival 2011, die unter dem Motto "Everything Connected" inmitten Sydneys Old City im ersten Wolkenkratzer Australiens: AMP Building, 33 Alfred Str.

Was am Montagmorgen mit einem ersten Pre-Session Handshake mit John Hagel und Annalie Kilian begann, sollte die aufregendste Woche meines Lebens werden und vielleicht auch die überraschendste Fassung für Dresden (da tauchen nun bestimmt Fragezeichen auf ;-)) Annalie Kilian, die Organisatorin & Katalysator der Konferenz, war mir auf Facebook und Twitter bereits seit geraumer Zeit gefolgt war. Wir hatten diverse Chats geführt und auch Links getauscht als auch Kommentare gegenseitig auf den Facebookseiten hinterlassen - übrigens kam der Kontakt indirekt über eine gute Freundin in Melbourne, Marigo Raftopoulos, die mich vor drei Jahren zu Twitter einlud. Worauf ich damals erwiederte, es war Herbst 2008, "Was soll ich denn damit?". Ihre Antwort, "Vertraue mir, es ist das Richtige für Dich!" Sie sollte nicht zu viel versprochen haben damals.

Ein Diamant ohne Fassung ist, da sind wir sicherlich alle einer Meinung, nicht wirklich sinnvoll verwendbar als Schmuckstück. Bekanntermaßen ist Dresden einer der "Hotspots" der europäischen Hightech-Szene (u.a. mit einem Max-Planck-Institut für Genetics, das höchste Anerkennung weltweit genießt und zwei Chipwerken, die Dresden als einen der beiden relevanten Chipproduktionsstandorte etablieren). Neben wenigen großen Playern in der Szene, wie Infineon und Global Foundries (die ihre Stammsitze nicht in den Neuen Bundesländern haben) ist Sachsen Heimat vieler mittelgroßer und kleiner Unternehmen, die oft zu den "Hidden Champions" mit weltweit hervorragenden Ruf gezählt werden. Doch was fehlt ist die "Fassung", um die großen Diamanten mit den vielen kleinen der Region in einer Weise zu verbinden, dass diese wunderbare Stadt und ihre Bürger, seien es Opernsänger aus dem Ausland, Wissenschaftler, die sich zum Forschungsaufenthalt in der Stadt aufhalten oder Kollegen aus den USA, die bei Global Foundries oder Infineon arbeiten.

Ein Netz von "Diamantenfassungen", um die bekannten und weniger bekannten Diamanten Dresden's zum Funkeln zu bringen - das war die Mission der vergangenen acht Tage in Down Under. Dresden als künftiger Highttech-Hub an der Schnittstelle zwischen MIT Cambridge, Silicon Valley, Amplify Festival, gathering11 PI Community, Singularity University.... vielen mehr.

Politicians have to ask the "right" questions and view into the future has to be learned and taken into account.

Outliers have to be inside the conversation - to be moved from the outside closer to where the action is going on.

Mindblowing Days - Sydney is more than just Down Under ;-)

DAY 3 - I just imagine, "So much different to a day at Singularity University's Executive Workshop". A mindblowing experience where you certainly think, "Please let me keep in the room and around the folks to grab as much knowledge as a human could possibly grab" - at present rather impossible. Let's find out what sparked me by the speakers listed below

@amcafee drilled the essentials today down to what Enterprise 2.0 is all about. Reminded me pretty much of my early days at BMW Leipzig. Back in the day (starting the set-up of the plant from 2001) all cutting edge technology like web cams, WiFi, Sametime (as an internal chat tool), Netmeeting (for desktop sharing), etc. were to be tested in the business context. From 2003 when joining the company I happened to become one of the "internal social network super nodes" across functions and departments - now this seems to trickle into the overall corporate world and I am still passionately fulfill this role - this time Down Under connecting thriving Sydney with the rest of world.

AMP host of the Amplify Festival 2011 with its chief creative evangelist Annalie Kilian has truly done an exceptional job on bringing people to the next connecting level across boundaries.

Barry with his true large vision on "One Laptop per Child - in Australia" really inspired the crowd -and myself. Remembering the two 12-year old chaps entering the CoOrpheum back in May 2010 getting on the various there in use mobile devices (Windows-, MacOS-, or Linux-driven) with natural ease. Asking them whether they wouldn't like to take their teacher and class mates over for some short sessions on using this new technology in class. Their answer was, "Oh, forget our teacher can't teach us anything. No use of bringing her here!"

Giving laptops to any child, whether in countryside or cities, would ease work load on teachers on one hand and opens up independent learning for the kids - a WIN-WIN for community and society in whole.

Debbie showed in her presentation that the 50-year-old ones are the relevant audience of the mobile age. Just not as fast pacing ahead like the youngsters - never mind, solid grounding with life-long experience embedded can establish astonishing results pretty soon ;-) Starting Ultimate Frisbee at age of 38 was not easy for me. Competing with the twens running me out on the field made me often felt behind. However worthwhile overcoming that emotional fear to act in more clever ways will be similar towards the new emerging technology.

As I met Craig William Dunn, CEO of AMP, yesterday as he was sitting beside me in the first morning session checking the Twitterstream on his Blackberry - there are certainly some first-movers in the corporate world. I have met one of those :-)

Ray Kurzweil at Dresden Future Forum in Dresden certainly was a hit. John however brought this to really new hights.

Disrupting the current thinking!! It was such an inspiring session that I had to see it twice as my mind could not get hold of all and my fingers certainly went short of catching up as well.

Learning about the Chinese Facebook, YouTube and the different user experience that is so-un-Western. Thinking and asking about "When is the 'Black Box' coming to combine the regional social networks, so every culture can stay on its 'own ground' and yet connect?"

Learning form Michael first hand about the achievements of MIT Media Lab reminded me of Amy Smith's D-Lab (also in the "MIT sphere". Just too much to grab - and this happened already on DAY 1. Amplify Festival and this top on the edge crowd like Michael - just too much to grab with "normal mind" - had to use the "twitter mind" to keep track of thoughts ;-) More than 50 tweets a day as I learned today from a friend in Dresden. This is even way too much for some.

Advice on the sideline: don't even try to read all the tweets that flowing through your timeline ;-) The right ones will find you anyway.

Gunter Pauli certainly was the thrill to what I have been up due to my passion in creating sustainable work environments sparking up people using their brains and creative to put innovative solutions into their daily life (whether work or private) they would've never thought before in their life. Gunter certainly showed in his most inspiring talk what is possible - only reshifting the business model's underlying assumptions and work across the value stream in order to create value at every point of the chain.

James Gardner made it clear in his workshop session with the iPad - there is added-value to the business world using the iPad (or similar devices like netbooks). So much more handy than PCs or laptops. His talk about disrupting innovations in the "twisting field" certainly inspired not only me.

#SidelineAdvice: when you are stuck with a problem, can't get an inch further, step back, let go, and let your client, customer, or friend weigh in asking her/him the same question you're asking you all the time!

Wow, and now we are down to Lean (Thinking?) with Jim Benson first at the Lean Coffee Session down on 1st floor (on DAY 3 really with around 15 dedicated people from executive level to normal ranks, including John Hagel who played nicely the role of a "co-leader".

Having learned about "The Power of PULL" which John co-authored with John Seely Brown AKA JSP via an interview JSP gave at a conference in 2010. Following John in the virtual space (like Twitter, Facebook) has given me great insights, new connections, new thinking - now the virtual meeting has finally evolved into the real meeting.

Jon Katzenbach with his talk reminded me very much of Edgar Schein, especially when he mentioned Ed's work. Just too much going on in my head that could be captured by writing. Thanks Jon for your most inspiring talk that made me again feel, "Yes, you never know enough until you embed yourself into the client system working on the same issues or at least stay with the folks on the frontline for a couple of days to capture the underlying culture of the organization"

To be honest I had no chance to visit one of Nigel's sessions what had a fair amount of short chat in the prep room on Monday and on Twitter in between. Sometimes it does not need much to connect with people, you just have a "guts feeling" that this is a "fit":-)

What counts for Nigel also applies for Mike Nelson. Only a few words on Monday, RT once in a while and will have chat tomorrow. Sometimes the connections grow slow and then the meeting is there ;-)

Again it was most inspiring about how far ahead India is in terms of innovation. Sanjay's talk reminded my one of my last system dynamics confererences in Athens in 2008 where a PhD student with family from India was presenting his work about the shift and disruption in the mobile telecommunication market. Seems like the "big shift" is not only coming from this side but as Sanjay made clear also from the educational side. Vivek Wadhwa, an entrepreneur and visiting professor in the Bay Area also talks a lot about India as the coming innovation country.

Wochenende in Dresden - wunderbare Stunden

As promised, time has arrived to write about the second performance I saw at the Semperoper. This thime it is not a Ballet but an Opera: Rusalka by Antonin Dvorak.
An Opera very new to me, never seen it before (actually not often performed in Italy). For this reason, I was looking forward to discovering what was waiting for me on stage. Will I like this Opera or not? Will the modern scenography and coreography the Semperoper always put on stage meet my taste or not? These were some of the questions in my head. I only had to wait the show to start to get the answers I was looking for.
At 7pm the curtains open and the show starts. What I see on scene is not so clear to me. A scene is repeted again and again, always exactly the same, like a song that once played till the end, it starts again and again.....it was like an introduction to the Opera itself, a kind of making the audience ready to what was coming to be performed very soon.
A few minutes later Rusalka starts.
On the scene appears a beautiful young woman in a metal silver dress, Rusalka, a nymph. Rusalka is unhappy. Although she sings in Czech language, Dvorak's mother tongue, the audience can feel she desires something she is not sure she will never have. The subtitles in German language help me to understand what's happening on stage.
Rusalka is in love with a Prince. Is this not strange? A "woman" belonging to the water world is madly in love with a man from the emerged world. Have we heard something similar in the past, maybe during our childhood? Well, the answer is yes. Suddenly I remember Hans Christian Andersen's "The little Mermaid". Also in this fairy tale the beautiful little Mermaid belonging to the water world is madly in love with a beautiful Prince from the emenged world.
Both the little Mermaid and Rusalka want their desire to become true: leave their world and become part of the new world, the emerged world. Starting a new life with the man they love. They wrongly believe that all will be fine there, the life easy and no difficulty arise.
Rusalka desperately asks her father, the Waterman, to help her in becoming a "real woman". Parents always play a key role in children's life, don't they?
This is not an easy decision for him. The Waterman knows the difficulties Rusalka will meet in her new life, he knows she will suffer and feel sad and alone but above all he deeply loves her. Rusalka has made her decision and he accepts it and leave her free to live her dream. It is not always easy for parents to leave children walk the path of life on their own legs!
Becoming a "real woman" has however a price (as all in life!). Rusalka has to give her beautiful voice to the witch who transforms her in a woman (the same happens to the little Mermaid). Now without her voice Rusalka enters in the emerged world.
Soon life shows to be not so easy as she thought. The Prince's love is reveled to be not so strong, being constantly temped by many "sexy" woman.
Rusalka starts to feel alone and sad and to be voiceless doesn't help her. She lives with pain and anxiety her new life and wishes she can have her old like back.
Often during the performace a column rises from the ground and goes up to the sky. Every time one of the characters is on it, the one the attention is focused on while all the rest of the scene takes place on the floor. I found this tricky very interesting.
I end writing that, as in Hans Christian Andersen's "The little Mermaid", there is no happy ending for Rusalka. As for all of us, life is not always easy. What we believe to be the best choice, the one that will make us happy, often shows to be not the right one, not the one that will make us happy. As always every choice and decision brings inside its consequences.

Hallo Dresdner,
Freunde und aufmerksame Verfolger im World Wide Web,

soeben bin ich für einen einwöchigen Konferenzaufenthalt in Sydney (Amplify Festival 2011) und Melbourne (gathering11) eingeladen worden, um von dort als "Blogger in Residence" live auf Twitter und meinen Blogs zu berichten.

Ich befinde mich auf Einladung in Australien und werde sowohl in Deutsch als auch Englisch auf Twitter, Facebook, XING, und anderen Social Media Kanälen schreiben, was sich hier unten weit weg von Europa auf technologischem Feld tut.

Wochenende in Dresden - wunderbare Stunden

Finally it came after so long wait.

A few days in Dresden, visiting the city and of course attending a Ballet and Oper performance at the Semperoper.

I start with the Friday performance:

3 Colors Green:

The first piece is "Emeralds": As the name reads, the green Emeralds are on stage, first part of the Jewels choreography created by George Balancine (I already have written my impressions on this ballet as I saw it twice at La Scala). I love the sweet music and the soft movements of the dancers. Fauré's music is fantastic!

The second piece is "She was black". A completely modern piece, very different from Emeralds, simple and elegant choreography by Mats Ek. I already "met" him last year. At Teatro Verdi - Salerno the Italian Etoile Roberto Bolle performed Giselle (one of Mats Ek's most known pieces in Italy). The main theme was then love and madness.

Today Mats Eks' theme is TIME. Subjective and objective time. The way we feel it and we see it moving around us. On one side there is our personal perception of it, on the other side the Time with no feelings, no worries, no needs. Sometimes our subjective perception maches perfectly with the objective Time, but more often this does not happen. Is it not the same in our daily life?

In this "space" life runs from birth to death.

The "She was Black" of the title is exactly the Death. No one centimeter of skin can be seen, completely covered by black tights. Like a ghost it moves on stage, observing and interacting with the dancers daily life. For all the time of the performance no one knows if Death is male or female, only at the very end we discovered it was female. Like a mother gives birth, she takes life back.

Another figure hit me. A male dancer wearing an almost completely red dress with only one leg black. He (Raphaël Coumes-Marquet) dances always alone and always on his tips. He has never contact with the other dancers and he also moves like a ghost on stage.

The colour of the costumes caught also my interest. All male dancers dress completely in black, like the Death. On the female dresses, like on Raphaël's dress, the two colours (red and black) combine together, like to state that in life nothing is all black or red (white).

And now I come to the third piece: "Artifact Suite" by William Forsythe. A modern piece too. Also for this piece the Time is the main theme but in a competely different way. It is the beat and the backbeat to rule the game. The ballet assembly makes the choreography together with a few lights. A female in white tights guides all dancers on stage like puppets.

Two or three couples dance in the main role but there is no coordination among them. It is like if they cannot hear the music or if they feel it in a very personal way.

Only when the female or the male dancers dance alone on stage the perfect balance is reached, they move in a perfect coordination in the main role.

To cut the scene, like a sharp knife, the curtain goes up and down in the first part of the ballet.

All pieces were amazingly beautiful. I cannot say I liked one more than another. They all gave me strong feelings and opened my mind to new ideas and perceptions. Like everytime I attend a performance (Oper or Ballet), what is performed on stage touches my soul and makes me feel like if my body has no boundaries, a fantastic feeling, inexplicable.

So ended my first great evening at Semperoper.

Mindshaking or Mindblowing - good question!

Tuesdays are in a way special, after starting off the week smoothly after the weekend, this day often inhibits surprising changes in life. So also yesterday when attending a public meeting where Rector Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen gave notice about the actual stand of DRESDENconcept and what its benefits for students may be. Despite the fact the second largest hall at HSZ (Fritz-Förster-Platz) probably roughly 500-600 only 50 students and myself found their way - what has not reached the public mind?

Quite similar patterns happen when looking at the Semperoper, and especially its ballet ensemble Semperoper Ballett - when I talk to people (not the ones who are already opera enthusiastic one) I often get the answer, "Too expensive. I don't get a ticket. Old fashioned. I need expensive and exclusive clothing to get in. What does it give me?"

Do these believes still hold true as many of the non-attending students in the afternoon at TU Dresden may have thought things are still the same as they used to be?

Anyway, I again took the chance to go for last minute tickets (luckily I live nearby so a 5-minute-walk is not a big deal, even if I would not get a ticket). Yesterday "3 Colors Green" (for the Twitter fans there is the hashtag #3ColorsGreen or more general #Semperoper) with its second performance - and as always, I am in :-).

A ballet evening with three quite different pieces by Georges Balanchine, Mats Ek, and William Forsythe was on the program. This time and a more general audience, quite different to the première audience, yet as the evening should show as enthusiastic and ballet loving.

This time I focus on the larger picture and won't go into details on specific dancers - this will follow in my third review (after the Friday performance); I have written a short review directly after the première on Friday, 20th of May in Facebook.

First piece - George Balanchine's "Smaragde" - very traditional - customers with lots of sparkling stones - lovely semi-transparent stage space cover with over-sized smaragdes

It was like the crowd tuned in and followed the show, connected in mind with the known ballet pieces they had probably seen in the past. The break then offered some clarification by friends I met, "It's nothing special. Pretty slow. Looking forward to the next piece."

What was going on? They had seen a piece which connected pretty much with what they had known from the past. Nothing new they were emotionally shaken or didn't understand otherwise. So it was in way a "downloading" into old and known pattern of thinking/ seeing.

Second piece - Mats Ek's "She was black | Sie war schwarz" - the stage layout had been changed - pretty normal looking clothes - "strange" moves of the first two dancers on stage - music from loudspeakers - no time to applaud - subtile signs that triggered thinking, questions

... while the audience kept quite over the whole course of the performance, this energy flowed towards the dancers in massive applause, whistles, and "Bravo" shouting (I didn't count the rise and fall of the curtain, but more than three (!) times I'd say). This was mind-shaking, as the unexpected moves and figures of the dancers definitely opened up people's minds (unintentionally probably more than they felt).

The "provoking moment" of arts was right then and there!

Third piece - William Forsythe's "Artifact Suite - Neufassung" - modern costumes - minimalistic layout on stage - mainly driven by light installation - geometric patterns - cutting off view by closing the curtain several times (and rearrange the setting of dancers on stage) - almost the complete ballet company on stage

After the mind-shaking middle-piece this again brought the mind again into steady and stabile flow - and still the thoughts were moving sort of "turbo-charged" - an interesting feeling.

What can be learned by this evening and perhaps a proposal for future ballet goers who really want to take something out of the evening (lasting longer than the performance itself)?

Take the unexpected (even though you don't know what is coming) - Semperoper stands for high quality, a go is never a loss
Take friends with you or actively seek for them when strolling around the hallways in the breaks (conversations always clarifies some personal views or misunderstandings, and it gives a variety of other views of what the pieces may remind other persons of)
If you are working class (with a regular job) try to take off a half-day the following day in order to bring the built up emotional energy into output (either personal things or projects you are sort of stuck at work)

For the students which I mentioned in the beginning the above would flow into the following:

take the chance to learn about unknown things (where no grades are behind (!))
dare to run for evening ticket booth (write on Twitter with hashtag #Semperoper - in order to meet other folks, either students or visitors)
go through a phase where you feel uneasy and emotions almost taking over (but you can't leave in the middle of the piece); the outcome may be more positively outcoming than you ever expected.

Impression on Jewels

JEWELS the beautiful precious stones available in different colours that women love so much. Well, this time NOT. The "JEWELS" I had to do with is a beautiful ballet performed in three parts: Emeralds, Rubies, Diamonds.

Green like Emeralds, like childhood, like the first steps in the world. Music by Faure.

Red like Rubies, like teenage, like first love and passion made of skirmishes, games and fun. Music by Stravinski.

White like Diamonds, like the adulthood, the true love, the conscious passion, the tenderness. Music by Tchaikovski.

George Balanchine put all these emotions in his 3 coreographies. The result is an amazingly beautiful performance (2 hours in total).

To say the truth, I saw it twice. The first time I was fascinated expecially by the costumes and the music. Never seen costumes so magnificent, they are really jewels: Emeralds with green stones, Rubies with red stones, Diamonds with transparent stones. The performance was not so good as I expected it to be.

Yesterday I loved all the three performances and I loved them in full, costumes, music and dancers. They performed beautifully. All was perfect!

La Scala was full, not less then 2000 people (different ages) breathing at the same time, feeling the same emotions and expressing all their appreciation and their love after each performance, expecially after the second one, Rubies (my favourite too).

Among the 2000 people attending the performance, many came from abroad, German people, English people, East-European people and African people and also a nice couple coming from the west coast of Canada. They were in Milan for visiting the city, the museums and possibly a performance at La Scala. They sat next to my friend and me and we discovered they had no idea that a ballet performance was taking place in the afternoon and learned about it by chance. Nice to know that they try to attend a performance in every city they visit! The Opera (ballet or opera can be a mirror of people, a lot can be learned attending a performance in a city you do not know, it has to do not only with what performed on stage but with the behavior the people living there have).

One more lovely thing that happened during the performance had to do with the orchestra director Mr. David Coleman, a very friendly man. He danced on his place while conducting the orchestra during Rubies, I could feel he loved what he was directing, he felt the music deep in his body and in his soul and could not help dancing. I felt the same, I wanted to stand and dance the enchanted music written by Stravinski.

Another Emeralds is waiting for me soon....very curious to see how it will be!

Gute Dinge im Leben fangen immer mit einem unscheinbaren Impuls an.

Damals im 2. Stock der 35. MS an der Clara-Zetkin-Straße stehend, "Verdammt, muss das sein, da ist eine frisch sanierte Schulturnhalle. Die kann nicht genutzt werden, da keine Umkleideräume und da liegt das alte Volksbad, ungenutzt, zugerammelt und vergammelt. Da ließe sich doch was machen, oder?"

Gedanken zum Mobile Camp 2011 in Dresden

Am vergangenen Wochenende hieß es für ca. 250 Interessierte aus Nah und Fern: Mobile Camp Nr. 3
Für alle, denen das Konferenzkonzept eines Barcamp noch nicht bekannt ist: es gibt keine festen Vorträge, jeder Teilnehmer hat die Möglichkeit (und sollte dies auch nutzen - insbesondere für teilnehmende Studenten eine gute Gelegenheit das Reden vor der Gruppe zu üben) seine Themen in einer kurzen Session zu vermitteln, Sessionplanung am Morgen vor versammelten Auditorium (eventuell können angebotene Sessions auch "leer ausgehen").

Samstagmorgen um kurz nach 8 Uhr (mit Sicherheit nicht die einfachste Aufgabe für diejenigen, die am Abend zuvor bereits auf der Terrasse am Bischofsplatz die ersten Gäste des Wochenendes zur Warm-Up Party trafen), der Partyservice hatte die Räumlichkeiten der Fakultät Informatik gerade verlassen, sollte ein erneut spannendes Wochenende beginnen.

Mobile Computing war das Thema der Veranstaltung und so startete der Morgen mit dem Wichtigsten: Kaffee.

Das Zweitwichtigste folgte ohne Verzögerung: die Sessionplanung (diesmal ohne die 3 Tags-Vorstellung - via Twitter für Cathleen und Marko, die neben mir saßen)

Soviele interessante Sessions, dass einem förmlich der Kopf brummte. "Diesmal wollte ich doch ein paar Sessions anbieten, wie die Sensor Networks Session", stets ein Trade-Off: Konsumieren oder Anbieten.

Es sollten an diesem Samstag drei Sessions werden, an denen ich beteiligt war, von Sensor Networks (gemeinsam mit Dirk Spannaus, IBM) und Museum 2.0 (mit Robert Badar von den Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden). Mit Robert habe ich bereits beim stARTcamp im März gesprochen, was so möglich sein könnte (Disclosure: Ich bin begeisterter Museumgänger mit Jahreskarte für die 12 Museum der Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden und nutze dies ausgiebig). Museen bieten einen offenen Möglichkeitsraum, neue Dinge im Kleinen auszuprobieren, wie z.B. ein elektronisches Gästebuch mit einem iPad und direkter Verbreitung der Einträge über die Social Media Kanäle [hier wird ein Sponsor für eine solche Lösung gesucht, zunächst ein iPad - wenn jemand gute Kontakte zu Apple oder einem Händler hat einfach melden].

Reichlich spontan entschied ich mich noch eine Session zu TranscendentMan, der Dokumentation zu Ray Kurzweils Leben anzubieten (drei kurze Videoclips sollten die Basis der Session werden). Wider Erwarten war die Resonanz mit mehreren Dutzenden Händen, die sich gegen die Decke streckten recht hoch - und ich muss zugeben, dass ich mich sehr darüber freute! - Kurzdokumentation (Tafel)

Es gab soviel zu erzählen, Schönes und Überraschendes zu berichten, dass ich mich kurzfassen möchte.
Wir nennen es PresencingStatus (Kurzabschluss von Besprechungen, Konferenzen oder dergleichen):

Good: Aktiv Sessions durchgeführt, entspannte Atmosphäre (ich hatte den direkten Vergleich zum Output_DD, wo Accenture, T-Systems MMS, sowie Schwarz vorherrschte), ausführliche Gespräche mit Marko Meißner, Marcel Bernatz, Stadtrundgang mit Frank Lorenz, Irina Balko und Frank Hamm (der jäh vom Regen unterbrochen wurde und uns nicht in den City Beach kommen ließen ;-( - davor amüsantes Gespräch aus dem Sächsischen Landtag mit der Leitstelle der DVB AG und Bus 333 ;-)))
Tricky: erste Session (Sensor Networks) in der zunächst der Fokus auf der technischen Machbarkeit und theoretischen Frameworks lag - Involvieren der Zuhörer zunächst gering, mein Zuspätkommen in die Sessions (war irgendwie nicht in meinem "elektronischen Gehirn" (= Palm Treo 650) verortet) für das ich mich bei allen Wartenden nochmals entschuldigen möchte, der etwas überstürzte Aufbruch gegen Ende der Veranstaltung (Teilnahme am Festakt anlässlich der Eröffnung der Ausstellung "Verstummte Stimmen" an der Semperoper, dessen Beginn um 18 Uhr war)
Learned: Übung macht den Meister - meine Entspannheit stieg mit jeder Session, am liebsten im Team mit einem Co-Moderator (im Wechsel) und gleichzeitig auch noch die Session mitschreiben (an Tafel und Rechner), die besten Gespräche ergeben sich aus den Überraschungsmomenten im Leben
Action: ... einfach so weitermachen wie bisher und viel viel lernen, über das, was Menschen wirklich wirklich machen möchten!

Arts, Science & Business - brewing the future together

As I have written earlier in my posts around my personal experience at Semperoper (the local opera house in Dresden) performances, especially Semperoper Ballett performances, there is a strong connection between performing arts, science, and business (including education) and a "delicious" combination when put together right.

Arts is meant to be a "provoking and mind opening" facilitation ground to bring new thinking and innovation to kickstart. Semperoper intendant Dr. Ulrike Hessler in a recent interview given to Deutsche Welle Culture said, "If opera is good, that's the place to go if you want to experience strong emotions". "Strong emotions", that's when innovative thinking sneaks from the ground of hidden consciousness. Getting the thoughts across disciplinary boundaries and getting into the dialog beyond into the world that is outside the opera house, is what will bring future value in the community (and well beyond).

Recently this topic has been also taken into account in Silicon Valley, where BiblioTech2011 takes place and will be live-streamed and soon available on YouTube as Vivek Wadhwa a tech-entrepreneur and academic at Silicon Valley posted on Facebook and Twitter recently (check out his blog for more background on his work in the field).

Due to the fact that the ensembles of the science research institute and the ensembles of the internationally well known Semperoper ensembles (whether orchestra, singing or ballet dance) are pretty much multi-international set by members, I take the courage to bring this thought out in English. It may be disturbing the local crowd but isn't it "provoking" your emotions that makes us rethink our current actions and thinking?

The third part of the above "equation" of driving the future innovations in Saxony (or perhaps in more general terms anywhere around the globe) is engaging the business world. Here especially the local business on an SME size are the ones that will make the difference in the "game".

Tolerance - Talent - Technology - it's all here in Dresden, Saxony, as well as in Silicon Valley, and elsewhere whether India, Botswana (a dear friend is doing a great job over there transforming the country), or Australia (where gamification of business is strong). Only we have to put on the stove and get the menu out (TOGETHER).

Schaltzentralen - Zentrum des Neuen

Gerade komme ich von "Dresden Perspektiven Kunst im Öffentlichen Raum" im Kraftwerk Mitte zurück. Eine Umgebung, die geradezu für Neues inspiriert. Die Patina der Schaltzentrale und die Geschichte, die quasi durch die Gänge waberte ließ den Kopf öffnen. Drei Vorträge begleitete ich, dann war es mir zuviel. Ich ging raus und auf eine Kartoffelsuppe - und das war gut.

Was im ersten Moment wie ein Flüchten aussah, entpuppte sich als ein "glücklicher Zufall" (= Serendipity). Ich kam mit einer bekannten Dresdner (ex-)Galeristin ins Gespräch, die sich auf einen Kaffee neben mich setzte und ich nur beiläufig fragte, "Sie sind auch nicht von hier, oder?"

Immer wenn man ein "komisches" Gefühl hat, dass es in einem Vortrag nicht weiter geht und man sich "langweilt", sollte man einfach die Perspektive ändern, rausgehen, und offen für das Unausweichliche sein.

Oft geschehen dann die Dinge, die man stets erwartete doch nie wirklich machbar erdachte.

Kunst im Öffentlichen Raum - dies kann so vielfältig aussehen wie z.B. das Innovatorium, das Festspielhaus Hellerau, das FutureLab2056, oder die "werdende" Installation im Öffentlichen Raum in der Seestraße und es regt auf und öfter an - doch merken wir es stets erst hinterher;-)

Wie genial ist es erst, wenn Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft sich mit Kunst verbindet, um die "Muse" in uns Menschen zu erwecken, die es ermöglicht, das "Unmögliche" möglich zu machen?

Habe ich doch soeben festgestellt, dass die letzten Beiträge ausschließlich mit der Semperoper bzw. dem Semperoper Ballett zu tun hatten. Möge jetzt jeder annehmen, dass ich nur noch in Kunst unterwegs bin. Doch weit gefehlt.

Vernetzung von Kunst, Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft - das ist, was mich wirklich wirklich treibt!

Vor einigen Minuten wurde ich Freunden aus Serbien via Facebook "gefunden". 1991 waren wir mit zwei Dutzend Studenten aus Italien, Deutschland, Türkei, Italien, England, Griechenland, Jugoslawien, Spanien, Frankreich, Belgien, u.v.m. zum Studienpraktikum in Athen. Alle in einem über die Semesterferien "verwaisten" Studentenwohnheim an der Hauptausfallstraße zum Flughafen untergebracht. Die erste Nacht war an Schlaf nicht zu denken, die nächsten sechs Wochen ging's sogar ohne Ohropax und bei geöffnetem Fenster.

Schon damals faszinierte mich die Vielfalt der Kulturen auf engem Raum. Wir unternahmen nach unserer täglichen Arbeitszeit und am Wochenende viele Ausflüge in die Umgebung und auch zum nahen "Souflaki Place" - einem Ort wo wir alle zu Europäern wurden.

War es das, was mir so im Gedächtnis blieb und mich im Herbst so vom Semperoper Ballett anzog, als ich gebannt gar nicht mehr den Trainingssaal verlassen mochte? Ein Mikrokmos von Global Citizens right in the city being the boundary community between the audience and the real world around us.

Wenn Menschen zusammenkommen, oft physisch und an einem Ort, geschehen Dinge, die man nicht vorhersehen kann. Doch wieviel mehr kann geschehen wenn sich dies mit dem "globalen Raum" des Web in unterschiedlicher Prägung verbindet?

Manche nennen es CoWorking, ich nenne es zusammenbringen, was zusammengehört :)

Ballet öffnet die Zukunftsfenster unseres Denkens, dessen wir uns
nicht bewusst werden können (ohne äußere Impulse). Ergreifen wir
diese in dem sich ergebenden Augenblick werden wir oft selbst von

besser ausdrücken können.

Die Fragen, die im Raum stehen:

In welcher Weise lassen sich die individuellen Wahrnehmungen solcher Augenblicke gemeinschaftlich verbinden?
Was wird möglich wenn dies geschieht (selbst wenn es nur eine Handvoll Personen betrifft?
Welcher Raum/ "Container" (wie es in der Organisationsentwicklung heißt) benötigt es?

Poppea - Tannhäuser // Eines?

Sonntag 2. April 2011: Premiere von "L'incoronazione di Poppea" an der Dresdner Semperoper.

Montag 25. April 2011: "Tannhäuser" von Richard Wagner ebenfalls am gleichen Ort.

Was haben beide gemeinsam?

Beide Opern sind, wenn auch 200 Jahre in ihrer Entstehung von einander getrennt, aktueller denn je, und sie regen den offenen Geist zum Nachdenken an über die Situation in unserer Gesellschaft. Geht in dieser alles so von statten wie wir es wünschen? Allzu oft höre ich das Gegenteil und gleichzeitig die Worte "Ich kann doch eh nichts ändern!".

Wirklich?

Senneca und Tannhäuser, beides relevante und stückprägende Gestalten innerhalb des jeweiligen Plots verkörpern den am Rande der Gesellschaft stehenden Intellektuellen, der das Geschehen der herrschenden Klassen (sei es die an der Spitze oder die unten in der Gesellschaftspyramide) betrachtet. Solange solche Personen weit am Rand des tatsächlichen Geschehens aktiv sind nimmt man sie und das was sie sagen oder schreiben nicht ernst. Doch wehe wehe wehe wenn sie sich in die Mitte des Geschehens begeben!

Sind es wirklich Intellektuelle? Und welche Rolle spielen diese Charaktere (damals wie) heute?

Der amerikanische Soziologe C. Wright Mills ist der Überzeugung "unabhängige Intellektuelle seien angesichts ihrer Marginalität entweder mit einem verzweifelten Gefühl von Machtlosigkeit konfrontiert oder müssten sich nolens volens als Mitglieder einer relativ kleinen Insider-Gruppe Institutionen, Verbänden oder Regierungen anschließen, die selbstherrlich und skrupellos lebenswichtige Entscheidungen treffen." Die klare und unverbrauchte Wahrnehmung der Realität, die Intellektuellen eigen ist wird oft nicht in Umsetzung gebracht, wenn Sprache oder Habitus (gepaart mit den oben genannten Phänomen) dazu führt, dass sie von der Masse der Menschen nicht verstanden werden. Und sie werden "ausgestoßen" aus dem "inner circle" der Macht oder des Machens, ihr Wort verstummt. Bis man sich eines Tages wieder an sie erinnert - wie an Senneca und Tannhäuser. Warum sonst sind diese Aufführungen nach hunderten von Jahren noch immer so gut besucht und ausverkauft?

Intellektuelle und ihre Gedanken und Taten sind Ausdruck einer "provozierenden Kunstform", die Menschen emotional berührt. "Würden wir uns sonst über diese Dinge aufregen? Was hat das mit der Realität zu tun? Das ist doch viel zu abstrakt!" - all das hört kann man immer wieder hören.

"Es ist für mich keine Frage, dass der Intellektuelle auf dieselbe Seite wie die Schwachen und die Nichtrepräsentanten gehört. .... Im Grunde ist der Intellektuelle in dem von mir gemeinten Wortsinn weder Friedensstifter noch Vermittler, sondern jemand, dessen ganzes Wesen auf einer kritischen Geisteshaltung beruht, einer Geisteshaltung, die nicht gewillt ist, gängige Formeln oder Klischees, geschweige denn die glatten, stets so entgegenkommenden Formulierungen und Gesten der Mächtigen und Erfolgreichen zu akzeptieren. Intellektuelle in der damaligen - wie heutigen - Gesellschaft sind die Katalysatoren, die das Neue, Unaussprechliche in die Welt zu tragen (teilweise durch Sprache, Schrift und auch Taten). Genannt werden müssen sie deshalb unbedingt so, und schon immer ist das unbeschriftete Produkt zum Anregen des eigenen Nachdenkens anregender als das klar definierte - auch wenn es oft nicht einfach zu sein scheint.

Aus meiner Sicht wieder einmal interessant welche Verbindungen sich offenbaren, wenn man sich Opern genauer anschaut, insbesondere die Muster, die dahinter stehen. "Connecting the dots" könnte man auch sagen.

Wer das Textbuch von "L'incoronazione di Poppea" nicht besitzen sollte zum Nachlesen, ein Anruf bei der Semperoper oder ein Besuch der Schinkelwache gegenüber dem Residenzschloss in Dresden kann helfen. Es lohnt sich - ebenso wie ein Besuch der Oper, die in wenigen Tagen wieder auf dem Spielplan steht.

Richard Wagner - Mind Pictures through the Fog

Easter - always a time of renewal. So every year Good Friday starts with a visit to church. The last couple of years the smaller version of the Frauenkirche, it's the small Loschwitzer Kirche made by George Bähr, the builder of Frauenkirche.

Why do I write this? It has much to do with what the title announces.

Easter is for several years my journey in finding the right spot to work (actually I do work a lot) and earn a decent income for living. Every time I fetch a different piece of new knowledge from the prayers. And so the Easter days went on reflecting on the past and where the "cracks in the future door" are to be seen and opened.

Over the past days several entries from non-Dresden folks appeared on Twitter about Semperoper. That immediately caught my interest. "What could have happened that has made the change?" Nahoko Gotoh wrote about a terrific performance of Tannhäuser ("hm, sounds like Wagner" - I thought by myself) and mentioning a following blog entry (there seem to be more opera fan writing than thought initially - good to know) - actually back in London by now. Best regards to London, where close by I happened to learn English some three decades ago in a two weeks "crash course" (staying at a family with no German contacts whatsoever - which made the game (without any course)!).

Thoughts are moving like rivers, sometimes everything goes straight, nothing special to talk about. Then out of the corner of the eye there is something changing, a small river from the side is approaching, new waters flowing into the thought stream, some turmoils, changes, new!

So I learned about someone else who just tweeted about arriving in Dresden for the Monday evening Tannhäuser performance.

And so Easter Monday started quite normal, visiting the 3rd FIGARO Operncafé Spezial at Rundfoyer of the Semperoper. Annette Jahns, one of the guests invited, a former singer at Semperoper talked about a song evening about Wagner some years ago. My synapses snapped in: Tannhäuser, Semperoper, Wagner, Bayreuth (actually there is something else right now Bayreuth is connect since a few weeks past). BTW I also met (the first time I have met someone I know at this event) Boris Michael Gruhl, organizer of the Danceweek (Tanzwoche) that is currently taking place (till 29th of April) in Dresden.

Not sure whether taking the courage to go to a performance with well over four (4) hours length I posted my concern on Facebook to some friends. I got genuine support and all but none told me: GO!!!

So I went, got a decently priced ticket and awaited long afternoon-evening event. Of course I had challenged Wikipedia for Tannhäuser shortly before coming, now holding the textbook in my hands reading through the plot. While reading an older couple seated themselves beside me. I noticed that they only had the "Einleger" (showing all participants on and beyond stage for that particular performance). So I offered my textbook while I was writing on Twitter and we got into a short conversation. They were from Munich on holiday, having visited the Saxonian Switzerland, now seeing Peter Konwitschnys Tannhäuser for the 2nd time. We exchanged names and wished each other a great time.

What followed then from 5 PM sharp (till 9:30 PM, with two twenty minutes breaks) was amazing, colorful, challenging, stunning (as the Australians like to say ;-)), and a learning session of its best. Though during the performance -I have to admit that- I was somewhat overwhelmed by my cold and tiredness.

Good: listening to my dear opera friends and going - THANKS to ALL of you!!! The work of the stage builders once a again an exceptional outcome full of color resonating with emotional feelings; a furious Stephen Gould (Tannhäuser) taking us back to time and Tichina Vaughn (Venus; I have seen her at Rusalka where she also played exceptionally); the orchestra led by Peter Schneider held the play together over the complete time (awesome (!)); standing ovations (there must have been lots of fans in the house).
Tricky: the time length of the play - "Once upon a time in America" with four hours back in the 80's was aquivalent in time and reminded me of my several late night movie theatre visits (starting at 8 PM and finishing with sunrise) also back then. Not understanding to much of my "mother tongue" really "disturbed me, time for deep listening on YouTube to Wagner and other German operas.
Learned: Deep learning happens when you feel uneasy doing something and at the same time learn that it is doable (by others).
Action: Take yesterday evening as another puzzle piece on my personal development path towards a place where my personal strengths can be put into action. Thank you Semperoper Crew for enabling such a great self-development environment!!!

Giuseppe Sinopoli - ein Genie (auch in der Erinnerung lebend)

10 Jahre ist es her seit Giuseppe Sinopoli am Pult während eines Konzerts der Staatskapelle in Berlin aus dem Leben gerissen worden ist. Ein Genie nicht nur im musikalischen Sinne, denn er war auch noch ausgebildeter Psychiater und Archäologe hat uns ein großes Werk hinterlassen.

Nachdem am vergangenen Mittwoch das Orchester der Staatskapelle Dresden mit Christian Thielemann am Pult das "Concert to the 10th Anniversary of the Death of Giuseppe Sinopoli" in der Lukaskirche spielte findet sich in der heutigen SZ (Sächsischen Zeitung) vom 23.04.2011 eine exklusive Einleger-CD.

Bis letzten Herbst und dem Preisträgerkonzert in der Semperoper war mir der Name Giuseppe Sinopoli unbekannt. Doch mehr und mehr lerne ich über die besonderen Qualitäten des Ausnahmsdirigenten.

Danke allen, die dies bisher möglich gemacht haben :)

Break Dance to Balanchine - Tanzwoche gestartet

Gestern Abend hieß es im Kleinen Haus des Staatsschauspiel Dresden Auftakt zur 20. Tanzwoche. Fast ausverkauft zeigte die Jubiläumsgala was (nicht nur) Sachsens Bühnen und TänzerInnen an Vielfalt und Können zu bieten haben.

Vor dem Damoklesschwert der aktuellen Sparsirenengesänge musste man sich wieder die Frage stellen, "Sollen wir darauf verzichten, bloß weil es Kunst heißt?" Wer sich unter den knapp 400 Gästen befand wird sicherlich das Gegenteil der Frage bejahen! Natürlich brauchen wir diese Art von Kunst, denn erstens sind die Empfänger der Botschaften so unterschiedlich wie die Darbietungen und Kunst war schon immer "fruchtbarer Humus" für neues Denken und Innovationen. Wenn nicht von der Kunst lernen, wo sonst hat man die Freiheit von Ausdruck in dieser Vielfalt!?

Ein wenig spät erschienen leitete mich eine charmante Mitarbeiterin auf die obere Tribünenhälfte und ich konnte die letzten Minuten des Ballett des Mecklenburgischen Staatstheaters Schwerin genießen und gedanklich langsam in die schnell ineinander übergehenden Performances gelangen. Boris Michael Gruhl, Organisator und Macher der Veranstaltung führte geschickt mit kurzen Worten in die jeweiligen kurzen Stücke ein. Sobald er sich von seinem Stuhl erhob, um den Gang vor zur Bühne zu machen, "verstummte" das Publikum aus seinem Applausrausch - fast wie auf Kommando.

Für jeden Geschmack gab es etwas, was solche Art von Veranstaltungen immer wieder ausnahmslos gut macht, denn so gewinnt man in kurzer Zeit einen groben Überblick über vielfältige Ensembles in Nah und Fern. Kann sich dann gezielt für die oder diese Company entscheiden und schon mal auf den künftigen Wunschzettel der Besuche schreiben.

Furios war kurz vor der Pause die Beat Fanatics Family Dresden mit ihrer "Breakdance-Show", die ob ihrer artistischen Kunststücke eingebettet in selbstinszenierte Choreographie die Massen begeisterten. Unglaublich was Menschen fertigbringen können - man kam aus dem Staunen wirklich nicht mehr raus.

Das "Duett aus 'Love Song Letters'" des Ballett des Theaters Plauen-Zwickau überraschte positiv, denn von so einer doch "klein" anmutenden Company war dies nicht zu erwarten. Die Kostüme ließen nicht nur die Tänzer in das Zeitalter von Robert Schumann zurückbeamen. Modern und traditionsorientiert, dem Geist wurde einiges abverlangt bei den schnellen Wechseln - doch genau so macht Kunst Lust auf mehr. Was steckt dahinter? Wie sieht das gesamte Stück aus? Intention des Choreographen? - Fragen, die sich einem unwillkürlich stellen.

Dan Palleg und Marko E. Weigert von wee dance company aus Berlin -mit den "Schränken"- holten alle wieder zurück in die Jetztzeit. Faszinierend, was mit einer zugegebenermaßen außergewöhnlichen Requisite so zu machen ist - öffnet überraschend Horizonte und Blickrichtungen (im Denken - öfter einfach mal selbst anwenden).

Es sollte weiterhin eine Achterbahn des Tanzes werden, denn von diesem Experimentalstück aus ging es um 180° in das klassische Ballett zurück. Wir erlebten das Pas de deux aus George Balanchines' "Diamanten" getanzt von Elena Vostrotina und Raphaël Coumes-Marquet vom Semperoper Ballett.

Schalk und Schabernack war definitiv aus Prag zu erwarten und dies bewahrheitete sich mit Vesele skoky, Jolly Jumps Theatre aus Prag, die wiederum das Pendel der Aufmerksamkeit in eine ganz andere Richtung trieben.

Boris Michael Gruhl machte es spannend, als er nach Nachtasyl des Ballet Anhaltisches Theater Dessau eine Überraschung ankündigte. Und dies wurde wirklich eine, bis auf wenige im Publikum konnten nicht ahnen, dass zwei ganz Große des Balletts sich auf die Bühne bewegten:

Jiři und Otto Bubeniček (Beides Principal Dancer an der Semperoper Dresden bzw. Hamburg Ballett)

Es war grandios und so ging die Jubiläumsgala zur Eröffnung der 20. Tanzwoche Dresden langsam ihrem Ende entgegen. Wieder einmal hat sich gezeigt, dass Vielfalt an einem Ort und kurzer Zeit (immerhin war es nun doch fast 23 Uhr geworden) Hunger auf mehr macht. Ähnlich erging es zum Preisträgerkonzert an der Semperoper im Oktober. Immer wieder die beste Gelegenheit neue Fans und die es werden können für die Kunst zu begeistern und unter Umständen ganz neue Besucherkreise anzuziehen. Bei einem Gläschen Sekt klang der wunderbare Abend aus, nicht ohne auch noch einige Bekannte wieder- und neugetroffen zu haben.

Für die kommenden Tage "toi toi toi" an alle, wie es so schön stets vor den Premieren des Semperoper Balletts bei Facebook heißt.

Bayadère - Personal Leadership on Stage

Yesterday afternoon I read a tweet by István Simon about his second show as Solor with Natalia Sologub as Nikija in Bayadère. Being a "last minute man" going with the flow I tried the very last minute tickets (in my Tevas, just coming back from shopping - which made me feel a bit awkward amongst the people in fine robes) and was lucky (and off I went for changing for trousers and jacket - living just across the street does make that possible ;-)).

Seeing after Coppélia my second story-driven ballet, this time arranged by Aaron S. Watkin, ballet director of Semperoper. Also this time I knew the main characters in advance and had seen other work of István at the "Inner Voice" played at Albertinum in October last year.

Always stunned by how the humming audience is silenced the moment the announcement for shutting off mobile phones. The start in the story followed a real dramaturgic approach: slow in the beginning, tuning in for the dancers and the orchestra as well. Not sure why I look so sensitively but that is probably what my passion and skill is in general. This helps a lot in understanding the emerging processes in any disciplinary, may it be a production line at an automotive manufacturer, creating a CoWorking space, or just observing the emergence of a new technology within given processes.

István and Natalia (see on left at rehearsal) certainly had some role models in my head that they "compared" to: Jiří Bubeničeck (video interview by New York City Ballet on Facebook) and Yumiko Takeshima, both some of Semperoper's principal dancers. One could clearly see the development over the course of the play that night. In the first act an almost missed grip (at least I had the feeling to sense that) by István caused some "ahs" and "ohs" in the audience. Remembering situations on the field playing Ultimate Frisbee, when someone drops the disc - the real mental strength of people emerges in situations like that. István and Natalia not only managed to get across that situation but improved immensely till the end.

Again it was worth going into the unknown field of ballet - always positive surprises that the Semperoper Ensemble (singers, dancers, orchestra players) provide. THANK YOU ALL!!!

Good: experiencing the high-level dancing and mental leadership (taking an error in performance as an accelerator for going beyond the possible), standing ovations for the "new" dance pair István and Natalia, the "Kingdom of Shades" with stunning dancers of the ballet ensemble (time could have been definitely longer - it was lovely to watch and analyze the perfection)
Tricky: some seats are definitely not for tall people like me (how about mentioning the suitable ones on the seat plan?), feeling a bit absurd with bare feet (in Tevas) buying the ticket
Learned: believe in yourself and go for the best (there is always more than you achieved till today (!))
Action: taking István's experience (learning from (tiny) mistake at stage performance) for own life. "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined" - Henry David Thoreau

Ein Tag voller Überraschungen

Der Morgen beginnt:

Rezension zu Cinderella fertiggeschrieben und gepostet (die Gedanken an die wunderbare Premiere hängen noch immer nach :-))

"2. Schwiegermutter" von Cinderella, Raphaël Coumes-Marquet, auf dem Weg zum Bäcker getroffen

Gespräch mit einem Clustermanager (am Telefon und ca. 5 min (!)) zu geplanter Filmveranstaltung zu TranscendentMan, ich höre Frust in seinen Worten "... wir sind doch eh nur die verlängerte Werkbank des Westens und globalisierter Unternehmen!" (sollte es doch kein weltoffener Hightech-Standort sein? Ein wenig wundere ich mich, doch ähnliche Worte hörte ich erst vor genau einer Woche von einem anderen Clustermanager - alles scheint auf der Lauer zu liegen und auf das Wunder zu warten)

Mittags an der Musikhochschule Carl Maria von Weber am Wettinplatz, ein roter Strick auf weißem Papier schlägt mir von Betonsäulen entgegen "Ist das Kultur oder kann das weg?" - Kundgebung zum Erhalt kultureller Vielfalt in Sachsen am 19.04.2011, 15 Uhr vor dem Sächsischen Landtag Dresden (Bernhard-von-Lindenau-Platz 2) ---- ich erinnere mich an Worte von Frau Dr. Ulrike Hessler, Intendantin der Semperoper, nicht nur in Talkrunden in den letzten beiden Wochen sondern auch im Spielplan 2011/2012 "... weil die Kultureinrichtungen so genannte weiche Standortfaktoren sind, eine hohe, berechenbare Umwegrentabilität besitzen (...) und weil sie Voraussetzungen bieten für eine wirtschaftliche Entwicklung einer Region wie Sachsen, die sich als Hochburg für Zukunftstechnologie versteht." (Seite 6, Saisonvorschau Semperoper Dresden 2011/2012)

Wenig später: zwei Absagen (Computergeschäft und Hightech-Startup), wo ich mich als Callcenter Agent beworben hatte (bei der Firma bin ich bereits seit 2009 persönlich bekannt, wir konnten feststellen, dass ich als Logistiker und findiger IT-Umsetzer durchaus in die Firma passen kann, und ich bin mit dem Geschäftsführer gut bekannt) - Ablehnungsbegründung: (Computergeschäft) = keine; (Hightech-Startup) = "Wir glauben Du bist unterfordert!" - "Verdammt, habe ich mich unklar ausgedrückt? Ich wollte eigentlich nur einen einfachen Job, und Callcenter habe ich von der Pike in der Katastrophe 2002 gelernt, die unterschiedlichsten Fragen und Probleme lösen müssen. Dann war es ähnlich bei BMW in Leipzig, wo ich das "wandelnde Callcenter" war, denn ich war immer und überall im Werk erreichbar, und dank meines seit 10 Jahren aufgebauten und auf dem Smartphone abgespeicherten Netzwerks immer den passenden Ansprechpartner zu finden, mit dem gemeinsam das Problem zu lösen ist" - Habe ich doch etwas falsch verstanden und die Aussagen in der Zeitung die letzten Wochen hießen doch, "Arbeitskräfteüberfluss, bitte verlassen Sie den Freistaat, wenn Sie gut ausgebildet sind und sich auf Veränderungen gut einstellen können!"?! -- noch mehr Fragezeichen poppen in meinem Kopf hoch.

16 Uhr - wieder eine Netzwerkveranstaltung, diesmal der 7. Runde Tisch Technische Visualistik, spannende Vorträge im Bioinnovationszentrum am Tatzberg, komme mit einigen Teilnehmern in Kontakt besser gesagt ins ausführliche Gespräch. Wir kommen auf Hightech in Dresden und da fällt, "Och, das machen wir schon seit 10 Jahren hier!" - Mir fällt es wie Schuppen von den Augen: schon wieder einer von diesen "Hidden Nano Champions" (Hermann Simon, den ich als Professor für Marketing an der Uni Mainz genießen konnte, prägte den Begriff "Hidden Champions" für Unternehmen, die trotz ihrer geringen Größe in ihrem Markt einen überwiegenden Teil des Weltmarkts befriedigen). Das Besondere an "Hidden Nano Champions" ist deren schiere Kleinheit und die klare Nischenstärke (meist Hightech, wie in der Region nicht anders zu erwarten).
Kultur [lat. cultura "Bebauung", "Pflege", "Verehrung"] - was das Land braucht sind nicht die Bewässerer (mit Fördergeldern), die Besucher (die den Garten schön finden, und auch mal einen Gang ins Museum, an den Elbestrom oder die Semperoper und die Landesbühnen Sachsen finden), oder diejenigen, denen es nie recht zu machen ist, da sie den Garten gleich am ersten Tag perfekt sehen möchten.

Es braucht die visionären Gärtner, die die kleinen Samen und das Potential in diesem Land so reich an Hochkultur und Hightech (sowohl in Forschung als auch Wirtschaft, man denke nur an all die Cluster, von "Cool Silicon", "Biosaxony", "Silicon Saxony", und noch viele mehr, zu dem machen was es verdient und auch imstande ist:

(Titel eines Kurzvortrags, von mir gehalten auf der Elevatorpitch Night Leipzig 2008 - am Ende der Veranstaltung kam der damalige Clustermanager der Wirtschaftsinitiative Mitteldeutschland, Klaus Wurpts, auf mich zu und fragte mich, "Herr Lippold, können Sie mehr über Ihre Vision sagen? Ich würde gerne mehr wissen darüber.")

Cinderella - Aschenputtel - Aschenbrödel ... three names one story

What could be nicer than attracting friends to a field of art that is for most of us situated only on the large stages of the operas such as Semperoper and somewhat out of scope (so to say)? Starting with the premiere of "Dido and Aeneas" Semper 2 now is attracting a wide range of newcomers and opera lovers. Always a pleasure to see age range from 10 to 80, newcomers and fans alike!

This time the 4th premiere on this cozy stage, just holding 200 seats, in a -you'd think boring-looking- cubicle was coming up with the ballet "Cinderella". Guest choreographer Stijn Celis had adapted the fairy tale with the music by Sergej Prokofjew and others to a one-hour show, which should certainly open some surprises - as the audience experienced pretty soon. For me the first surprise happened minutes before the start - but that's another story, which worked out fine. Patience is what is needed in tough looking situations, as "Cinderella" had to go through later on as well.

Off we go!

First protagonists on stage three man-looking women ("Hm, wasn't it a stepmother with two stepsisters?"). This was the moment to set the mind into gear, recalling the story on mind, racing back in time to the brother Grimm's fairy tale or the famous "3 Nüsse für Aschenbrödel" (a great czechoslovakian movie from the 70's which actually was filmed close by to Dresden, around Schloss Moritzburg). Again and again the ballet plays out surprises with a well-set choreography that -on purpose- leads the audience's minds through the story, sometimes on totally derailed thought routes.

George Hill as stepmother was just as hilarious as "her" two "daughters" (played by Claudio Cangialosi [main protagonist at "Silent Spring" a few weeks earlier] and Jón Vallejo [Franz in "Coppélia" together with Anna Merkulova as Copéllia]). A great compliment to the make-up artists, as this was just created beautifully!

A good start into the story, as the audience eased into to the flow of the story, and minds free to take the action on stage, actually right in front of some visitors (as seating goes well on the very edge of the stage, actually there is no stage, everybody is sitting or playing on the same ground - which makes it a very special feeling, and one "field").

When Anna Merkulova appeared on stage in the role of Cinderella she struck again with her strong pantomimic expression, which made once again another shift in the setting that night. Now two counterparts on stage: the natural Cinderella versus the "artificial" stepsisters (which stands for the constraints in life, the struggles everyone of us encounters every day in life).

Being almost part of the play the audience was completely entrenched and part of the play on stage - amazing what can be achieved when it's not world of acting on stage and audience rather a combined "social field" in the room which the dancers had made possible in the first place.

The general take-away from this beautiful evening: life is always a surprise and one has to keep the hands open to capture the love (and personal vision) that arrives often out of the "blue".

Good: A big THANK YOU to the whole team especially Anna Merkulova and Guy Albouy (on stage and behind the scenes [there are always surprises, like the snow flakes coming from top, one would not expect that moment], beautiful story setting (Stijn Celis) and costumes (Catherine Voeffray), audience being almost part of the play (sitting along the four walls), a crisp story wonderfully told by all the protagonists, new faces and friends.
Tricky: Personally bound too much on the "3 Nüsse für Aschenbrödel" story - had to let go get in the flow of "Cinderella".
Learned: I like the short performances a lot, as they enable to condense the essentials of the play and its implications to one's own world and experience much easier also through the closeness to the actors and dancers during the play.
Action: Applying Cinderella's view of life even more in own life, enjoy and let the future come.

Argentina meets Semperoper - That really Ba'rocks

Last Sunday my first encounter with Poppea. This evening then premiere. What would really expect me and the crowd? Some specialities like the orchestra pretty much on same level as audience and the stage overarching the orchestra dip, and lots of really old and unfamiliar instruments to be seen and heard.

But let us start from the beginning - BTW I am writing this blog post in English, as different nations were acting on stage from Argentina, Canada, via US-America to Romania and others, and I would like to let my opera friends outside Germany be part of the journey of tonight's surprise.

1643 - the probable birth year of "L'incoronazione di Poppea" - transferred to 2011 quite a stretch. Should we stick to the old stuff? Of course not, that would not be Semperoper-Style. Florentine Klepper, the current house stage director at Oper Basel is giving her debut at Semperoper, thought different. Taken from the old times are the music (with some surprises as you will see later) and the libretto, most of the rest around the story is adapted to modern times - which actually makes it pretty easy to take the story into current society stage setting.

And from the lowest rung of the ladder, things can look completely different …"

Having seen Entführung aus dem Serail by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lately it is rather challenging to adapt to the baroque instruments and music - this counts not just for me but also for quite a few others whom I talk to during the break. These instruments don't have the large volumes rather the subtle differences and this definitely takes time - within the timeframe of over three (3!) hours no problem at all.

Monteverdi's last opera is more suited to the current times, as we may expect when reading about the baroque era. It is all about group dynamics in an society "closed circles" on the top with little open flow into the lower ranks and back up. Doesn't that sound familiar? However Poppea, a rather clever woman with sex appeal and clear goals knows to play the "group dynamics game". Reminds me very strongly of system dynamics and Donella Meadow's work on it. Of course she is not the only one in the game, others interact and for that to make more transparent (as it is not normal in life, where one mostly just has a key hole perspective on the complete field of action) a great white-orange stage construction leads into the "Semper-Sky". As in Rusalka there are several stories going on in parallel and on different stage levels, which (if you haven't read about the story beforehand) can be quite challenging and tiring - opera is not just about singing, the costumes, the stage, but even more the underlying story that knits all together.

I could probably write till next morning, so much has happened during the pretty "kurzweilig" (a reminiscence on Ray Kurzweil) performance - almost three and a half hours of play. One major finding was the diversity of appreciation of the to modern times adapted play till the break. On my left I had the feeling, that the elderly man was not amused at all (he later left the house earlier) and meeting some folks from Hellerau during the break, they really liked the setting and play. Always a good sign, when at break time there is some kind of stillness in the ongoing action. A feeling of uneasiness as one don't know what is going to come, and when and where the climax arises.

While I was strolling around the hallways at Semperoper, getting the feeling of how the play is appreciated or what bothers people. Talking to some people I know, from the Technical University and Gebäudeensemble Hellerau, I realized that some additional background activities like the Introduction Matinees (the next one is for "Street Scene" on 12th of June) are not yet well-known to regular Semperoper visitors.

Two rings and the masses move (interestingly everybody knows what the rings have to mean - despite the different countries, languages and cultures they come from - common understanding exists amongst humans, without putting it into words, just sounds) back inside. This second part of the opera should be really one of surprises. Seeing a baroque guitar playing Argentinian conductor putting the tango feeling into Semperoper within a baroque opera was quite a suprise. With his Argentinian counterpart, Franco Fagioli (Nerone), on stage this duo was the driving force putting everything else in motion around Poppea.

This is not yet finished, and will be continued, as there is so much wisdom within this wonderful opera. Well worth to reflect and bring into real world in more detail.

So what are the four questions and its answers this time on Presencing Status?

Good: An awesome playing Nicole Heaston (Poppea), great stage construction offering lots of different stage levels, where different sub plays took place, always transparent and to be fully seen by audience; Rubén Dubrovsky (conductor) playing baroque guitar himself (!); seeing all the protagonists from last Sunday's Introduction Matinee again (especially Vanessa Gokkoetxea, Timothy Oliver, and Georg Zeppenfeld); great timely play connecting to the current situation in the state, region and city of Dresden (in the "wild life" out in the city the processes are not as transparent as we could experience them here at Semperoper tonight - time to learn from the performing arts, especially the field of opera (!)); standing ovations & Bravo screams & yelling of the fans of the ensemble on stage - wouldn't have thought of that before the break (!).
Tricky: due to the uprisen orchestra the sound of the instruments in the beginning of the performance somewhat overwhelmed the singers' voices (this leveled over the course of the time), bound to one fixed seat made me somewhat nervous (so many different perspectives to take to understand the play on stage); I'd like to have longer breaks especially during operas as complex as "L'incoronazione di Poppea"and "Rusalka" are.
Learned: when there is a dip and you feel uncomfortable (as large parts of the audience seemed to feel at first part till the break), the inner process of "letting go" prepares best for what new emerges; it is the uneasy emotions that make us grow and adapt to new circumstances in life (and over three hours spending at the opera is quite some time ;-)) better than before.
Action: definitely hone and finish this article (WIP work in progress), and for next time engage some friends to come along, guiding some opera talk after the performance (Cinderella on 9th of April will first try - meeting in the Café Alte Meister next to Gemäldegalerie - who else is coming? [for reserving a table])

Barock in Dresden - Insolvent. Wie es dazu kam.

Gestern war bereits der DNN (Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten) zu entnehmen, dass es die Firma Barock bald nicht mehr geben könnte. Heute dann auch in der SZ (Sächsische Zeitung).

Haben wir es hier mit einem Einzelfall zu tun, oder doch mit einem sich ausweitenden Phänomen?

Zwanzig Jahre ist die Wende her und damals übernahmen aus den untergehenden VEBs pfiffige Manager derselben oder aus anderen Teilen des Landes, Teile dieser Konglomerate, und führten sie auf den unternehmerischen Weg, der ihnen jahrzehntelang verwehrt war.

20 Jahre auf der Erfolgsspur und immer älter werdend führt unweigerlich zu einem "Blinden Fleck", die Veränderungen um einen herum und im Geschäftsumfeld wahrzunehmen.

Ähnlich erging es der jahrzehntelang äußerst erfolgreichen Firma DEC Digital Equipement Corporation, die in den 50er Jahren aus einem Computer Science Labor des Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) mit dem charismatischen Gründer Ken Olsen hervorging.

Edgar Schein, den ich 2009 während eines Seminars kennenlernte, hat DEC über 30 Jahre als Process Consultant begleitet, und "Aufstieg und Fall von Digital Equipment Corporation" geschrieben. Da auch er sächsische Wurzeln (seine Oma kam aus der Nähe von Bad Schandau) hat schließt sich hier der Bogen.

Was sind unausgesprochenen Annahmen der Gründer oder Geschäftsführer, die ein Abgleiten in den wirtschaftlichen Abgrund oft unausweichlich machen? Welche Gesprächsumgebung öffnet Horizonte für das adaptive Verändern an neue Marktgegebenheiten?

Dresden - Stadt des Barock? Doch mehr?

Läuft man als Tourist durch den relevanten Quadratkilometer mag man das Gefühl bekommen, dass es so sei. Auch Einheimische lenken oft ihren Blick auf die herrlichen Baudenkmäler. Die Spitze des "proverbial" Eisbergs - da ist mehr verborgen als man erwarten mag.

Die Semperoper war heute morgen Schauplatz eines Splitt-Screen: in der Semperoper spielte Rudolf Buchbinder gemeinsam mit der Staatskapelle Dresden den letzten Teil des Beethoven Sonatenzyklus und nebenan in der kleinen, doch umso feineren Semper2 gab's die Einführungsmatinee zur anstehenden "Die Krönung der Poppea" Premiere.

Mich hatte es in die "Kleine" verschlagen. Heute war es wirklich wie ins Wohnzimmer von guten Freunden kommen. Zwei Stuhlreihen jeweils an drei Außenwänden ließen mächtig Platz auf der Bühne und Raum für Überraschungen. Sophie Becker, Dramaturgin der Produktion, führte grandios durch die Hintergründe der 1643 (so ganz klar ist das Entstehungsdatum nicht) entstandenen Barockoper.

Die bereits bei der vergangenen Einführungsmatinee zu Rusalka erlebten Vanessa Goikoetxea und Georg Zeppenfeld waren wieder live mit Ausschnitten zu erleben. Doch damit nicht genug. Vanessa Goikoetxea und Timothy Oliver (übrigens auch noch in "Entführung aus dem Serail" zu erleben) ließen es zum Abschluss krachen - doch lassen Sie sich selbst überraschen, wenn es ab 02. April 2011 heißt "Die Krönung der Poppea".

Trotz des "hohen Alters" ist diese Oper angesichts der gegenwärtigen Welt- und politischen Umstände (auch vor Ort) tagesaktueller denn je. Mit einem freien Blick, und dem Willen die Dinge um einen herum einmal anders zu sehen und zu hinterfragen, ergeben sich neue Denkbahnen.

Lassen Sie uns "auf den Flügeln der anderen" (aus "Theorie U - Von der Zukunft her führen" von Otto Scharmer) mitnehmen und die Welt neu sehen und entdecken!

Good: Hintergründe zu Poppea-Entstehung, Großteil der zu sehenden Protagonisten in Action zu erleben, neue Bestuhlung (!),
Tricky: eindeutig zu kurz (wie so oft, wenn etwas richtig gut ist), anschließendes Publikumgespräch (hier könnten noch spannende Gespräche mit den Mitgliedern des Ensembles, der Regisseure, Bühnenbildner, etc. und dem kommenden Publikum entstehen)
Learned: ... immer wieder überraschen lassen, von dem was kommt [nix fix planen - mein Lebensmotto! Die Überraschung findet einen sowieso]
Action: .. mal schauen, ob's mit 4. Rang für Premiere klappt

PS.: ... so überraschend, wie der Morgen anfing ging es weiter. Kaum aus dem Semper2 - Kubus auf dem Theaterplatz, klingelt es und eine gute Freundin begrüßt mich (sie war in Buchbinder quasi nebenan gewesen), wir plaudern und dann gehe ich noch auf einen Kaffee ins Residenzschloss (zum Reflektieren und Runterkommen - der Kopf rotiert nach solchen Veranstaltungen stets, zu viele Verbindungen zur Realität, die sich auftun), nach dem Kaffee denke ich "wen ich wohl noch so auf dem Weg nach Hause treffen werde?". Und schon stolpere ich in weitere "Semperoper-Gesichter", mit denen sich gute Gespräche zu Bertold Brecht (V-Effekt), Sagmeister (Just another book ...; i.V.m. Jonathan Meese, Friedrich Nietzsche und Bühnenbild zu Dionysos), Frank Arnold (Von den Besten lernen), und noch so vieles mehr. Doch dazu sollten wir uns später etwas länger treffen.

RaLi - Good morning, and good night, Ling and Angela, depending on your time zone.

Ling good morning everyone!

RaLi - this will be real "crazy" workshop experiment within #scdd11, the in these minutes starting barcamp in Dresden.

May I start of with the question about your person and what has brought you into the opera field?

Angela Hi

Ling - I love the performing arts, be it opera, ballet, plays or musicals. My very first opera was Turandot at The Met. I think it was in 2005 or 2006. Since then I became entranced by the artform of opera. When an opportunity to work for Vancouver Opera became available, I became interested and applied for the Assistant to Managing Director position. That was in 2007. I was with the company until February 2011.

Working at Vancouver Opera, I've come to appreciate opera and am now a convert. I still consider myself pretty new to the genre; only having been exposed to 14 operas. There's lots more to see!

When I travel, I do try to see if the city I'm in is performing an opera at that time. My last trip to Amsterdam in June 2010, I saw the world premiere of A Dog's Heart.

I have always loved the old Greek theater and sow it in high school then, one of my best friend here in Italy is a young opera singer and I started my passion for opera thanks to him. I've always loved music expecially classical music but I went to my first opera " Tosca" by Giacomo Puccini with this friend.Then I started going also alone. Then, couple of years ago I started also with Ballet.....

Ralf - My initial connection to the opera was laid out decades ago. My grandma was a great singer, always sticking out of the chorus in church and my mother is an opera lover. Though what did not work when I was small switched when I worked in a large automotive plant and realized the interactions of the different groups are very ballet-like. Last year the Semperoper here in Dresden got a new director, a woman after 350 years, and I saw the connection as publicity arose (due to new website layout and other activities). I write a blog on economic issues of daily since 2008 and now often add reviews about performances on ballet and opera as well.

As more I see and experience there more connections into "real life" and the work field.

Hi Ling, happy to know your first opera was Turandot (Puccini). I love it. Sow it once in the Petruzzelli Theather (Bari) and I will go to see it again in April at La Scala Theater (Milano).

Ralf - What is it that really really draws you to the field of opera, and is there something special you love most in the field?

A question...would it make any difference if an opera is performed as a concert and not as a traditional opera performance with all the costumes and scenography?

Angela, unfortunately, I've only so far seen opera in its most theatrical form. Not as a recital. Having said that, I love the whole spectacle of it: the singing, the orchestra, the costumes, wigs, make-up, set decoration, multimedia touches.

Ralf - hehe. I think I anwered your last question when I was answering Angela's.

Ralf - Loving the performing arts, also an inspiring element for my work, I love the multifacetted action on stage and the orchestra. Sensing the subtle changes in the field of the actors and seeing the "tipping points" is what challenges me and draws my interest. Ballet is the most fascinating part for as expressing emotions without voice is challenging your mind. You really have to let go to get what lies behind the sheer things you see on stage.

I love ballet too. But I realized I prefer the modern performance. Last year I went to see Giselle. I saw the traditional performance and then the Mats Ek's coreography with Roberto Bolle. Well I was really impressed by Mats Ek's. It fascinated me the modern style and the feeling it was real for our time.

Ralf, did you still want to continue or are you going into the conference now?

Ralf - What was it that made you aware that social media can be a helpful media facilitator for an opera house?

Social media is a fantastic tool, particularly to connect and communicate with new audiences. Especially younger audiences since they are all well-versed in social networking services such as Facebook and Twitter. Opera houses can use social media to engage and educate those new or curious abut opera, get them interested and hopefully turn them into lifelong supporters of the arform.

In my past work I realized that the new communication tools, social media in the broadest sense, enabled me not only to find information on the web, rather - and more relevant - to interconnect with people across the globe. As the effort and money you need to connect across distances and time zones is almost zero, this new media landscape seems - for me - as facilitating tool for cultural institutions like museums and operas alike to connect with a much broader audience. Getting feedback in an instant by visitors, perhaps even during the performance, seeing the connections that are built up amongst fans of operas and people working on the ensembles is of great benefit for all.

The traditional media can't possibly act as fast and direct. When I visit a performance at Semperoper for example I can write a review within an hour after the event and put it online. As a visitor my personal views can be shared. Writing driven by my inner intent to share what I have seen and experienced is much different to a review a paid journalist will write in the first performance.

You're absolutely right. The cost involved is minimal but social media is very time-consuming and labour intensive. Companies and employees have to be willing to put in the time and effort.

That's correct - time consuming and labour intensive are definitely points not to underestimate. However when the activities are leverage across the fan base and even members of the ensemble find fields outside their professional. Ralf - Where do you see drawbacks in stepping into the Web World for operas?

I don't see any drawbacks when it comes to opera companies utilizing social media. If anything, I think being transparent, 'lifting the veil' and dispelling any myths about opera is a good thing. It gets people interested. Opera is perceived too often as elitist and intimidating to those on the outside.

Regarding your question about what worked well using social media:

For Vancouver Opera, what worked well for us was our blogger outreach initiative. We invited 4 bloggers to blog about their whole opera experience on opening night. They blogged about their thoughts pre-show, during intermission and after the post-show backstage party. The bloggers would convey their thoughts to their readers, many of whom have never been to the opera. We started that in early 2008 and it was a successful initiative. We had many first-timers come to the opera after our first Blogger Night.

This really sounds awesome. In a way, I would call myself as one of these bloggers here at Semperoper - though the early mover at the moment. Started the minute I saw the connection to my own life and work.

1.200 Workshopteilnehmer - und niemand merkt, dass es ein Workshop ist

Untertitel: Tage in Clichy werden zu Tage der Experimente ;-)

Als der Tag heute morgen (bzw. jetzt ist es bereits gestern) um 6 Uhr völlig unverhofft und überraschend begann, ich wurde einfach wach, lag schon irgendwas in der Luft. Der Tag ging dann Schlag auf Schlag vorbei und kaum dass ich mich versah, war es auch schon 17 Uhr - nur noch zwei Stunden bis Mozarts "Entführung aus dem Serail".

Vor einigen Tagen war ich auf der Website der Semperoper darauf gestoßen. Insbesondere die Tatsache, dass diesmal eine britische Dirigentin am Pult stehen sollte hatte mich neugierig gemacht. "Wie wohl eine Frau das Ganze Geschehen in Orchestergraben und Bühne managed? Was wird anders sein?" waren die Fragen, die mir durch den Kopf gingen.

... und so ging ich nach meinem Termin kurz nach 17 Uhr nicht über Zuhause sondern direkt auf Semperoper. Die frühlingshaften Temperaturen machten es umso angenehmer auf den Stufen zu Schillers Füßen Platz zu nehmen und über die vergangenen zwei Tage zu reflektieren. Irgendwie hatte ich viel mit einem Dirigenten gemeinsam gehabt, was die zahlreichen überraschenden Meetings anging, nur dass es keine breite Öffentlich sehen konnte. Lediglich der kleine Personenkreis in dessen Mitte ich mich befand, konnte es wahrnehmen (manchmal auch nicht so subtil waren die Interventionen). Diesmal war ich doch tatsächlich der Erste in der Schlange mit besten Aussichten auf Restkarten an der Abendkasse.

Stehplatz 37, 4. Rang - das sollte spannend werden.

Doch was sollte ich mit meinem Rechner anfangen und mit der Kamera, zu der ich wie die Jungfrau zum Kind gekommen war? Abgeben an der Garderobe oder noch mal kurz nach Hause flitzen, Abendessen und pünktlich zu Beginn der Vorstellung kommen (günstigerweise wohne ich lediglich 5 Minuten entfernt). Blitzentscheidung: Abendessen und Rechner und Kamera nach Hause schaffen.

Dort traf ich die komplette WG. In kurzen Worten schilderte ich die Geschehnisse des Tages, die mich u.a. leihweise in den Besitz einer Kamera für einen Videomitschnitt am kommenden Montag brachten (hat ebenfalls mit Oper zu tun). Und schon geriet ich in Zeitbedrängnis, noch eine Viertelstunde bis Vorstellungsbeginn - da musste ich mich sputen.

Etwas geschwitzt wieder im "großen Wohnzimmer" zurück. Noch ein Telefonat auf den Stufen nach oben (warum macht es mir eigentlich so viel Spaß stets Dinge parallel zu machen? Ehrlich gesagt weiß ich es nicht.) geführt und schon ertönt der Gong.

Heute ein etwas kleineres Orchester und ein schlichtes Bühnenbild. Doch so schlicht war es gar nicht - rötlicher Sand lichttechnisch wunderbar in Szene gesetzt ließ meine Gedanken direkt in den Süden und zum Urlaub wandern. Sollte ich mich etwa erneut in einem "Cultural Island" befinden? Die Protagonisten auf der Bühne sind mir gänzlich unbekannt - nun komme ich mir wirklich vor, wie ein Opern-Newbie. Ich finde meinen Platz im linken Bereich des 4. Rang (auf der Treppe - hart aber (blick-)günstig). Mozart ist nach den letzten Erfahrungen von "3 Farben Weiß" und "Junge Choreographen" doch um Tonlagen ruhiger - ganz ungewohnt in diesen schnelllebigen Zeiten. Wie sich später herausstellen sollte genau das Richtige zum Entschleunigen.

PAUSE

Erst einmal ankommen, die Handlung kurz im Programmheft überfliegen, durch die Gänge wandeln (Gäste von der gestrigen Veranstaltung zu Social Media bei Schneider + Partner getroffen) und dann flugs die Perspektive gewechselt: rechte Seite 4. Rang, ebenfalls Treppe.

Und schon sieht alles ganz anders aus - take a new perspective to see more!

Ich moechte etwas mehr über die Dirigentin Julia Jones wissen. Normalerweise sind die Dirigenten nie Frauen und das macht mich sehr neugierig. Die Frauen fühlen die Musik ganz anders als Männer und ich möchte wissen wie Sie das Orchester geführt hat und auch die SängerInnen.

Gute Frage, denn mit dem Dirigenten steht und fällt alles. Er oder heute sie ist das Verbindungsglied zwischen Orchester und den SängerInnen auf der Bühne, wobei auch das Publikum im Rücken nicht unwesentlich ist. Drei Dirigenten am Pult der Sächsischen Staatskapelle sind mir bereits explizit aufgefallen (Paul Connelly (Coppélia), Christian Thielemann (Silvesterkonzert), Vladimir Jurowski (Iolanta)). Alle hatten etwas Besonderes, was sie für die jeweilige Oper bzw. Ballett prädestinierte.

Julia Jones, auf dem neuen Platz konnte ich einen wesentlich besseren Rundumblick sowohl auf Orchester, Bühne als auch Innenraum wahrnehmen, faszinierte mich durch ihre reduzierten Bewegungen. Die rechte Hand mit dem Taktstock machte "sichtbare" Bewegungen, doch die linke war die "Zauberhand". Kaum wahrnehmbar führte sie die einzelnen Orchestergruppen mit subtilen Fingerbewegungen - sozusagen ein leichtes Anstupsen von Etwas, was ohnehin schon in der Luft lag und eben angestupst werden wollte. Zierlich fügte sie sich auf dem Pult inmitten des Orchesters ein - quasi ein Teil des Ganzen.

Es war faszinierend zu sehen, wie wenig es für eine wahre Meisterin ihres Faches braucht, die Stärken der Einzelnen im Team (Orchester + SängerInnerinnen) herauszulocken und zu einem gemeinsamen Erlebnis zu schmieden. So mancher Manager kann sich hier in zwei Stunden einen Workshop vom Feinsten abholen, und nebenbei noch beste Musik genießen.

Learned: es gibt immer irgendwie einen Tiefpunkt, wenn man denkt, "Mensch ist das gerade langweilig". Wenn man diesen überwindet, dann kommt das wirklich Neue in die Welt.

Why the Heck do I wake up at 6 AM?

A mere 20 minutes ago my mind got sort of crazy, "Why the Heck have I woken up now?". 6 AM and still an hour to sleep. I hesitated to catch my Apple to check my mails an see what my American friends, but shortly after 6 I then did. Amongst the emails on of OttoScharmer, who had posted on Presencing Community.

It is an ongoing conversion in a fresh group, called Hot Spots of Transformation, where people of the Presencing Community share their collective reasoning.

Without adding anything I would like to share what OttoScharmer wrote in this group just a couple of minutes ago:

Wirtschaftsförderung 2.0 - Dresden als weltweit erster Vorreiter

Sabine Friedel sprach schon beim Treffen im LockOffice im Winter 2010 von Wirtschaftsförderung 2.0 (linke Spalte der fotografierten Zettel).

Wie könnte dies in Zeiten globaler Vernetzung, Social Media und immer stärker wachsender sozialer Netzwerke über Länder- und Interessengrenzen hinaus aussehen?

Als gelernter Volkswirtschaftler fallen mir in der Presse immer wieder die Artikel und Interviews zum Thema Fachkräftemangel in Sachsen auf. Händeringend werden Ingenieure gesucht, so z.B. bei Global Foundries, die für ihr Werk FabOne in Dresden-Wilschdorf rund 300 Ingenieure händeringend suchen (so vermittelt auf dem Silicon Saxony Day vor zwei Wochen im Internationalen Congress Centrum Dresden). Was also könnte getan werden, ohne wiederum die teure Finanzspritze zu setzen?

Wäre es da nicht am einfachsten auf einen Spruch von Dresden's größtem Autor zurückzugreifen?

Heute bietet sich erneut eine Gelegenheit, die Möglichkeiten des Web 2.0 auszuschöpfen, indem von der Konferenz Smart Systems Integration nicht nur ein Artikel in der Printpresse zu finden wäre, sondern live davon berichtet wird? Live aus der Hotellobby des Dresdner Hilton schreibe ich über ein Event über meinem Kopf, das Zukunft bedeutet, nur dass es die wenigsten mitbekommen (noch (!)). Auf Twitter findet sich mehr unter #ssi11.

Vergleichbares habe ich vergangene Woche für die Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft und die mit 7.000 Teilnehmern größte Physiker Konferenz Europas gemacht (auch hier finden sich drei Artikel unter dem Label #DPG11).

Oft sind die Verbindungen von einem Hightech-Feld zu anderen nicht auf den ersten Blick erkennbar, doch mit Gesprächen eröffnen sich nicht Horizonte, sondern auch Möglichkeiten für die Stadt und die Region, das ungeheure Potential von Unternehmern, Querdenkern und genialen Erfindern und Vordenkern nicht nur in der Forschung zu halten, sondern diese Ergebnisse auch in echte Produkte für die Welt zu wandeln.

Wieviel Mehrwert in Euros ergibt sich für Sachsen und die hiesige Wirtschaft, wenn eine Person (oder auch mehrere Personen) offiziell für die Landeshauptstadt Dresden und den Freistaat Sachsen ("Alphablogger Dresdens", so konnte man bei einem Workshop der Kreativ- und Kulturwirtschaft von der Geschäftsführerin Dr. Bettina Bunge vernehmen) auf derartigen Hightech-Veranstaltungen Twitter, Facebook und Co. nutzt, um die Fähigkeiten der Menschen hier in der Region in die Welt zu bringen - crossing boundaries of languages and disciplines?

Zukunftsweisend ist Dresden schon seit 450 Jahren und wird dies auch in Zukunft sein - wie Ray Kurzweil im Sommer 2010 beschreibt.

Ich stehe bereit, gemeinsam mit einem internationalen Netzwerk, das Wissen und die Kunst Dresdens in die Welt zu tragen und Märkte zu erschließen - Wirtschaftsförderung 2.0 eben

3 Farben Weiß / 3 Colors White - Dedicated to the people of Japan!

The sun is shining bright and innocently into the room here in Dresden. A beautiful day is going to start so it seems - and yet this is just locally felt. Other parts of the world, such as Japan where people suffer the aftermaths of the earthquake and the adjacent impacts, feel the other side of nature. A week ago the troubles in Japan really started to go beyond imagination. Even with the experience of the flood here in Dresden in 2002 there is no real imagination of what people really suffer in Japan right at that moment. The past week feels like a century as so much and unbelievable has happened.

I'd like to share my thoughts and how it connects to the Semperoper and my passion for it that has evolved over the past six months.

A while ago I got some tickets for the public ballet training a week ago. A great chance to experience the "field" of the ballet training space as on Semperoper Open Day in September 2010. Anne, a true ballet and Semperoper fan joined me last Saturday on the last training for "3 Colors White". We enjoyed it very much - not really knowing the extent of the disaster in Japan. Seeing the dancers was like being at Semper2 where "Young Choreographers" took place a while ago. Being almost a part of the action as audience gives you a quite different sense what it really means to dance and bring the emotions towards the crowd. Aaron S. Watkin, Ballet Director of Semperoper, invited everybody after the training session to come to the 2011 premiere of "3 Colors White" the following Friday. On that Saturday, the earthquake and tsunami had hit the Japanese East coast. Thoughts raced round the globe to be with the Japanese people as the flooding of the Elbe and the rivers coming down from the mountains flashed back to my mind.

Friday morning shortly before 8 AM the radio moderator on MDR Figaro, a local music station focusing on music arts, announced a short interview with someone of the Semperoper Ballet Ensemble from Japan. My awareness rose and something hit me (I can't explain what it really was, some spark stayed in my head) - which followed my mind the coming hours. In the Semperoper Ballet Ensemble a small Japanese community of six dancers represent a culture so far and yet so close. One of them, Kanako Fujimoto, appeared in a short interview about her personal situation concerning the events in Japan. One could sense that she was definitely with her thoughts in Japan and on the other hand she felt that dancing is the best way at present she can help her people back home.

Feeling helpless myself in these times seeing disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti or the revolutions down in Northern Africa. Other than back in 2002 when I was in Dresden when the flood hit the city, it is much more difficult as an "outsider" to put your own strengths into action. My passion is about networking and leveraging knowledge across boundaries, mostly using conversations and use of communication tools. I love to be amongst diverse cultures and how they interact together. That is what has driven me to become a fan of the Semperoper Ballet and the Semperoper in general - a global multicultural microcosmos in the city of Dresden. At the end of the interview it was stated that the evening show of "3 Colors White" would be especially dedicated to the people of Japan in these tough times.

These thoughts followed me all day until I decided to give it a try and go for last minute tickets. 90 minutes before opening I was 5th in row in front of the main door. Seeing familiar faces - the card sellers on the place (reminded me somehow of my 1993 opera visit when getting a ticket was only possible through this way) and going through the very special process of "standing in line" which seems to be working England but not in Germany ;-) Got a ticket and awaited the evening - as always a booklet with the program and this time an introduction into the evening followed.

The program consisted of three quite different parts "A Sweet Spell of Oblivion", "Spazio-Tempo", "Diamonds" (where I saw Elena Vostrotina and Raphaël Coumes-Marquet again, this time not in training clothes as a week ago).

It was amazing to see the dramaturgic setting of the three pieces. "A Sweet Spell of Oblivion" only with piano and Bach music. The stage picture resembling somewhat of a membrane between the now and the coming future with a tunnel-effect. It reminded me of being drawn into the future, where nature is sort of deciding what's next for humanity. Quite still and calm this was the moment for tuning in the audience for what was going to come.

After the break Jacopo Godani's "Spazio-Tempo" opened new lanes of thinking, breaking the conventional thinking of the audience. Computer sound and abrupt tempi changes really challenged the audience. You could feel the uneasiness and the shift in the "field". The following applause and lots of whistles (was it just the fan crowd in the audience, or more? Pretty sure there is a growing fan community of the Semperoper Ballet especially after their performances in Albertinum and Gläserne Manufaktur lately). Jiří Bubeníček and Yumiko Takeshima took the whole team with them and one could feel the energy flow - everything looked so easy. It may be that when it looks easy you happen to see masters at play - this was one of these moments!

The third part "Diamonds" by George Balanchine, really got back the mood into "Ahs, and Ohs" when the new and with oversized diamonds set stage picture was revealed. When music of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden sounded, the crowd really was fascinated and again connected to their expected opera experience.

So a great evening moved on and memories stick - still thinking about connections of thought I took from it (will write on separate post soon).

To finish up the four questions:

Humans are Quite Like Electrons

...whooshing back and forth, sometimes drawn in and pulled to some new place in time and space.

Today the 5th day is slowly passing away, lots of the companies presenting their products for the experiments of the roughly 7.000 physicists here at the campus of the TU Dresden. Tonight the final public lecture, which is BTW public for everybody, will take place at HSZ01 (Audimax at Fritz-Förster-Platz). It will be about seriousness of scientific research - what a timely issue as the German Minister of Defense had to step back from office a couple of weeks back due to not follow these rules in doing his PhD.

And this is the strange thing which occurs when life is getting exiting: there seem to be more opportunities around than one could tackle.

Besides this talk tonight there is a talk about "Whether internationally well-known arts institutions like the Semperoper need marketing" and the FEP-Lounge at Fraunhofer FEP Institute.

Question: where should the "human electron" go?

Is it possible to switch between the three events?

Certainly not in standard means of communication or better said transportation. Teleportation would be the next big thing that comes to my mind. Anything in between, feasible right now and then?

Why not? Twitter, a crazy and amongst marketing experts and physicists not widely used or known communication tool of our days, could help out. Being at one space and at the same time being virtually in another one, getting a glance of what is happening there.

4th Day at #DPG11 in Dresden

Today, Wednesday 16th of March, the Technical University of Dresden has become a buzzing area in the city Dresden - pretty much outside the city center. What might draw some 7.000 physicists from around the world up here to the Southern parts of Dresden?

It is the 75th Annual Meeting and combined DPG Spring Meeting covering areas Atomic Physics, History of Physics, Biological Physics, Semiconductor Physics, and many more. In general fields that the "normal" citizen would not deal with on daily basis - besides using a mobile phone! Mobile phone technologies embodies quite a few outcomes of what is during this week is talked about in the several thousands of sessions. The program itself resembles -at first sight- more of a bigger city area phone book ;-)

Attended two press conferences - first on Monday the official kick-off one - by Prof. Wolfgang Sandner, president of the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft. Due to the recent developments at the Japanese nuclear plant #Fukushima the second press conference was fully on this topic yesterday at 11 AM.

Interesting to see what research is done in fields we are often are unaware, as we certainly don't see directly its implications to real life applications (even though the findings diffuse quite quickly into applications, like mobile phones, laptops, etc., that are becoming part of our life).

Yesterday at the official prize ceremony several scientists were honored for their outstanding work in the field. Besides these -men- one woman stood out: Hildegard Werth, science journalist at ZDF, Mainz. Special congratulations to her narrowing the gap between hightech research and daily life!

The hours race like electrons in Atto or Femto speed. So much to catch, one brain is just not able to bring all the interesting sessions together in broader context. The campus is just too big. How cool would be a TwitterWall in every venue with sessions - so in real-time one can grasp what is going on elsewhere. An idea for next year's conference here in Dresden - looking forward to it.

Earlier this afternoon at HSZ 01 (Audimax), where the room bursted almost as people streamed in to the sessions on philosophy and physics - this is really a big and general issue, to be applied also outside the physics world. Perhaps some videos to be on public later on YouTube.

During lunch I had the chance to talk briefly with Dr. Michael Jetter, University of Stuttgart, and Prof. Uwe Rossow, University Braunschweig. I mentioned a meeting I had earlier today, where the question occurred to bring more awareness about the "unseeable" physics into the world through performing arts. Also the question of whether research should focus on special outcome and applications. Unisono our view was that the researcher is more of an "artist" being left to his creativity to find unexplored new ways in the field without forced into a certain direction (driven by economic success). I wonder whether performances such as these can be used to facilitate this understanding in a broader sense (complementary to the work of Hildegard Werth).

... Elektronen rocken um die Wette

Aktuell: Mehr unter #DPG11 und Medienecho der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft

Heute Abend beginnt sie, die Frühjahrstagung der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft an der Technischen Universität Dresden. Ich werde die kommenden Tag live von dort berichten. Doch wird mein Physikwissen aus der Oberstufe von vor knapp 30 Jahren reichen, auch nur annähernd zu verstehen, um was es geht?

Die gleiche Frage stellte ich mir im vergangenen Herbst beim ersten bewussten Besuch einer Ballettaufführung des Semperoper Balletts. Ich hatte kurze Ausschnitte des angesprochenen Programms beim Preisträgerkonzert 2010 gesehen und mein neugieriges Entdeckerherz schlug höher. Ein paar Szenen und Töne hatten sich mir wie Kletten genähert und ließen mich nicht mehr los. Das so scheinbar Unbekannte hat stets die Chance, sich mit den eigenen Erfahrungen und dem in Kopf und Herz verborgenem Wissen zu verbinden. Dazu muss man es einfach auf ein Zusammentreffen ankommen lassen und "die Bereitschaft zur Innovation erhöhen und das Bewusstsein stärken..." (Dr. Ulrike Hessler, Intendantin der Sächsischen Staatsoper Semperoper Dresden im Vorwort der Saisonvorschau 2011/2012)

So wird es mir in den kommenden Tagen ganz ähnlich gehen, wenn ich in die Vorträge und Plenarsitzungen eintauchen werde und hier und auf Twitter bzw. Facebook meine Gedanken aufschreibe.

Im Kontext der kommenden Tage kommt mir die Semperoper wie ein "Turbobeschleuniger" oder "Hot Spot" vor, der "Altes und Neues, Tradition und Innovation, Nationales und Internationales.." (Dr. Ulrike Hessler, Intendantin der Sächsischen Staatsoper Semperoper Dresden im Vorwort der Saisonvorschau 2011/2012) verbindet - und das auf engstem Raum. Ein Mikrokosmos sozusagen! Erst vor einer Woche wurde mir dies wieder deutlich. Besonders Semperoper Ballett mit der Performance "Silent Spring" steht dafür - das dynamische Zusammenspiel der 24 Ensemblemitglieder ließ immer wieder Erinnerungen an lang zurückliegende Physikunterrichtsstunden aufblitzen. Dies ermöglichte erst neue Denkmöglichkeitsräume, die in sich ständig beschleunigenden Zeiten wie diesen nötig sind, um mit den Veränderungen Schritt zu halten.

Dass Sachsen nicht nur ein Ort der Kultur und Geschichte ist sondern gerade und besonders (bedingt durch seine Geschichte) stets ein Ort der Zukunftstechnologie war, ist und sein wird, zeigte vergangene Woche das 10-jährige Jubiläum von Silicon Saxony, einem Zusammenschluss der IT- und Microchipunternehmen nebst seiner Zuliefererindustrie.

Und so wird sich zeigen, wie die unterschiedlichsten physikalischen Themen im größeren Kontext sich in Dresden über Grenzen verbinden lassen.

Natur kümmert sich nicht drum - Wir Menschen JA

8 Uhr Nachrichten - Kernschmelze in japanischen Kernkraftwerk droht - Dresden strahlt vor Sonnenschein.

Ist Gott gerecht? Gibt es einen Gott? Was ist los in der Welt?

Während ich die Nachrichten höre, denke ich an 2002 zurück. Kaum von einem Ultimate Frisbee Turnier aus Berlin zurück an einem Augustwochenende verfolgen uns auf der Rückfahrt schwarze Wolken. Nur einige Tage später bei einem Vorstellungsgespräch bei der Gläsernen Manufaktur droht die Talsperre Malter zu brechen (so die Gerüchte). Dazu kommt es damals nicht. Die Wassermassen, die nächtens aus den Erzgebirgshöhen kamen rissen so manches Haus und Leben mit.

Alles kam "überraschend" niemand rechnete mit so etwas. Da es das noch nie gab.

Diesmal in Japan 2011 - es ist Freitag - ein Erdbeben der Stärke 8.9 - Nachrichten strömen über Twitter in den Rest der Welt. Noch sieht alles zwar nach einem starken Erdbeben aus, doch das ist man in Japan gewöhnt - zumindest kommen sie häufig vor und gehören fast zum Alltag.

Gestern war es anders: eine Tsunami-Welle kündigt sich an der Ostküste des Landes an. Erinnerungen an Weihnachten 2004 werden wach. An einem sonnigen Tag starben mehrere Hunderttausend Menschen, als ein Tsunami den Südpazifik heimsuchte. Damals war ich bei BMW, wir hatten gerade einen neuen Chef bekommen (der meine Vergangenheit als Organisator bei der Hochwasserhilfe Dresden nicht kannte). Es wurde nach Kollegen gefragt, die Interesse hätten bei der Bewältigung der damaligen Katastrophe zu helfen. Damals meldete ich mich, doch ich wurde abgelehnt - ich war nicht beim THW oder Roten Kreuz. Meine Fähigkeiten als emphatischer Organisator und Networker waren nicht bekannt oder relevant in Augen des damaligen Chefs. Gerne hätte ich geholfen, doch so schaute ich zu.

Doch sollte nur der Anfang sein, Bilder der Flutwelle und überschwemmter Städte und Landstriche füllen das Web. Google schaltet seine PersonFinder Applikation frühzeitig frei. Noch scheint es eine Katastrophe zu sein, verheerend, doch nicht apokalyptisch.

Dann gestern Abend - die ersten Informationen, dass es mit einem am Meer gelegenen Atomkraftwerk Schwierigkeiten mit der Kühlung zu geben scheint. Heute morgen dann die Nachrichten, dass eine mögliche Kernschmelze bevorsteht. Evakuierungen der umliegend wohnenden Menschen werden angeordnet.

Ich wünsche allen, dass es nicht zu dem kommt, was ich während meiner Bundeswehrzeit 1986 in Andernach erleben musste: Tschernobyl.

Meine Gedanken sind bei den Menschen in Japan, und auch den Menschen, die dort geschäftlich oder im Urlaub sind. Möge der Sonnenschein aus Dresden auch auf die andere Seite des Erdballs reichen. Mir stocken die Worte - mein Kopf rast. Was kann ich schreiben?

Alles wird im Vergleich zu dem was in Japan passiert so unendlich unwichtig. Als ich vor einigen Tagen in der Lausitz zu einem Vorstellungsgespräch war wurde ich gefragt, "Wie hoch ist Ihr Frustrationspotential?". Meine Antwort war "Es muss viel passieren!" Es erinnerte mich an die Hochwassersituation 2002 in Dresden als ich eines Tages einen verzweifelten Dresdner am Telefon hatte, der sich nach zwei Monaten Aushalten in seinem durchfeuchteten und nun schimmeligen Haus bei uns (Hilfe für Dresden - Bürger helfen Bürgern) meldete. Wir konnten ihm helfen. Doch als ich seine Stimme am Telefon hörte war mir klar, "Das ist Verzweiflung, kurz vor dem Selbstmord!"

Seit dieser Zeit schockt mich fast nichts mehr (keine Kunden während der Selbständigkeit zu finden, oder nun einen Job zu finden (mit offensichtlicher Überqualifizierung)) - doch die Ereignisse von gestern haben mich so berührt, dass ich heute bereits um 5 Uhr aufgewacht bin. Und nun meine Gedanken einfach niederschreiben musste.

Gerne bringe ich meine vernetzenden Fähigkeiten in die Beseitigung der Katastrophenauswirkungen aus Dresden ein. Are there any initiatives that organize such? Glad to be of help!

Meine Gedanken sind in Japan und bei allen Menschen, die von der Katastrophe betroffen sind. Vielleicht sogar mein Geist (wie es noch vor wenigen Tagen mit dem Mittleren Osten war, als die Revolution in Tunesien und Ägypten ihren Lauf nahmen).

Hamburger in der Pastamanufaktur

Während der Mittagspause von "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" | Fachtagung "20 Jahre Denkmalschutz in den neuen Bundesländern" erste Reflexion und Überraschung. Noch vor wenigen Minuten getwittert unter #aarDD (Auferstanden aus Ruinen) und spannende Beispiele aus Magdeburg und Dessau erfahren, wie Denkmalumnutzung und -integration geschehen kann.

Und die Überraschung? Hier in der Pastamanufaktur neben der Dreikönigskirche beim Latte sitze ich mit einem Paar aus Hamburg und plaudere über die Stadt und was so sehenswert ist. Ich musste doch meinen Mac irgendwie ans Dresdner Stromnetz anschließen. Die Steckdose lag so "ungünstig" hinter der Bank am Fenster, dass wir unwillkürlich ins Gespräch kamen.

"Sie sind auch nicht aus Dresden?" - "Nein, wir sind aus Hamburg!" - "Was gefällt Ihnen denn hier am besten?" .... und schon ging es weiter.

.... und so begann ein sehr angenehmes und sprudelndes Gespräch. Die Museen, wie Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, insbesondere das Residenzschloss mit dem Grünen Gewölbe, hatten es Ihnen angetan. "Ganz besonders gefallen mir die Kirchen hier in Dresden! Ich liebe Kirchen." - so die Hamburgerin, die in diesem Moment wohl sicherlich in Gedanken durch die besuchten Kirchen wandelte. Während wir so am plaudern sind kommen die leckeren Nudeln von der Pastamanufaktur und das Gespräch verläuft weiterhin kurzweilig ;-)

Erich Kästner, die Japanerin, die in ihrem Hotel wohnt und über ihn forscht, wird Thema. Leider ist heute, am Donnerstag, das Erich-Kästner-Museum am Albertplatz geschlossen. Wo doch Museen stets Montag geschlossen sind (nicht so das Residenzschloss in Dresden, das am Montag geöffnet hat, dafür am Dienstag geschlossen).

Aus meinem Tagungsband zückte ich die Dresden Broschüre. Hatte sie selbst erst einige Minuten vorher bei der Fachtagung erhalten und bei einem ersten Durchblättern für sehr informativ und gut aufgemacht gehalten. Nun befindet sie sich in "Hamburger Händen", und auf jeden Fall gut aufgehoben (wie ich eben feststelle, liegt es doch noch hier - und schon wieder in Richtung Ruhrgebiet unterwegs, denn es haben sich weitere Gäste in der Pastamanufaktur eingefunden ;-).

Ausgehend von der Feststellung, dass Gäste in Dresden im Durchschnitt 2,2 Tage (verdammt, wo hab' ich das noch gleich gelesen? Werde ich jetzt "geguttenbergt" ob der nicht vorhandenen Quellenangabe? Kann jemand helfen - bitte?") konnte ich mir der Frage nicht erwehren:

"Würden Sie auch für vier Wochen nach Dresden zum Urlaub kommen?"

... und da zeigte sich auf ein Neues, dass vieles von Dresdens Charme definitiv nicht in nur in der Innenstadt oder Neustadt liegt. Historische Dorfkerne, dörflicher Charakter am Rand der Großstadt, Chipwerke im Norden, Wanderwege inmitten der Stadt (Loschwitz) - wer mehr wissen möchte, einfach frech fragen ;-)

"Für drei Wochen, na das könnte ich mir durchaus vorstellen!"

Doch eine wichtige Frage stand noch im Raum: "Was ist denn für 14 Jährige bei einem Urlaub in Dresden interessant?" - erste Antworten bereits über Facebook erhalten. Wie schnell doch das Netz und seine Akteure sind - vielen Dank :-)

... allen, die sich in angenehmer Umgebung handgemachte Pasta genießen möchten sei ein Gang hierher empfohlen :-)

Silicon Saxony - Was wohl Technik mit Kunst zu tun hat?!

Seit gestern Abend verfolge ich im Dresden Congress Center die Aktivitäten rund um das 10-jährige Jubiläum von Silicon Saxony und dem 6. Silicon Saxony Day.

Ingenieure fokusieren auf ihr Thema - das lernte ich gestern aus mehreren Gesprächen.

Doch liegt das Neue und Erfolg versprechende nicht allzu oft am Rand dessen was mein Fokus ist? Wie komme ich da ran? Muss ich umdenken? Umlernen?

Vielleicht braucht es nur einen anderen Rahmen, Kontext, um das gewohnte Denken daheim zu lassen und neue Welten ergründen zu können. Erst gedanklich. Dann im Gespräch. Und schließlich in der Umsetzung :-)

Das Semperoper Ballett und das Gehirnjogging und Networkmarathon bei Twitter, Facebook und Co. ist mein Möglichkeiten- und Chancen-Turbo ;-)
